This week at the #csw68, we launched the #SIGI 2024 Regional Report for Southeast Asia: Time to Care! As we navigate through demographic and economic transitions, it's imperative for Southeast Asia to prioritise the development of a robust care sector. Here's why: 🔍 Empowering Women: A formal care economy not only tackles declining traditional supply of care but also creates new opportunities, especially for women. By providing more job options and freeing women's time from unpaid care responsibilities, we can boost their economic empowerment significantly. 💪 Building Resilience: Formal care services play a vital role in bolstering the region's resilience to external shocks. With formal care workers readily mobilized during crises, we can better navigate challenging times and ensure stability for all. 🌐 Promoting Gender Equality: Embracing formal care acknowledges care workers' contributions, attracting a diverse workforce, including men. By challenging gender norms surrounding caregiving, we pave the way for a more equitable society. However, despite these promising prospects, Southeast Asian countries face hurdles hindering the transition to a formal care economy. Women make up over 70% of our workforce in Florensis Kenya, excelling in all job categories. We call them "our ladies" because their ability to seamlessly integrate skills such as planning, organizing, empathy and multitasking has majorly contributed to the success of our organization. Due to their priceless contributions to our organization and surrounding communities, we strive to empower our ladies through our gender mainstreaming plan which we launched in 2019, to tackle issues like flawed policies, cultural biases, and limited support systems. This plan involves projects focusing on social empowerment, economic empowerment, and career development for our female staff. The projects are categorized in three target areas; awareness, resources, and safeguards, whereby we implement activities such as involving our ladies in technological advancements and innovations within the organization to #InspireInclusion, education on sexual health, mental health and financial literacy, free daycare, maternity support and provision of sanitary materials, and ensure safeguards like regular gender audits and transparent processes. As we commit to increase our support for our ladies, we wish all women a happy #InternationalWomensDay2024. #IWD2024 #ChooseToChallenge #WomensRights #GenderEquality

I believe the first step towards closing the gender gap of health care is to acknowledge the necessity of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for women 45+ years old! Women health is not just about getting pregnant and chronic diseases, in fact, many chronic conditions can be prevented by the early introduction of HRT before it's too late! One important step towards closing this gap is to fund and cover HRT expensive costs, and make it mandatory on health insurance companies to cover it for all women aged 45 and above!
