You’ll find that the AS9100 requirements are closely linked to the ISO 9001 standard .Most companies are fully capable of fulfilling those base requirements but struggle with the added requirements of the AS9100 standard. Counterfeit Parts are one of those added requirements. Tied to the safety of the end product or service, the verification of sourced materials to avoid counterfeit parts is a crucial requirement of AS9100. Certificates of conformity are not always enough. Thorough testing of function before acceptance of parts ensures they won’t compromise the performance and safety of the deliverable. In the aerospace industry, the integrity of every part is crucial. In 2020, I conducted one of the longest and most challenging tests at KGS laboratory: the standard compliance test for electric wheelchairs. These devices must adhere to the EN12184 standard, where nearly every clause refers to various parts of the ISO7176 standard (such as ISO7176-1, ISO7176-2, etc.). Consequently, ensuring compliance for this device required testing against more than 10 standards.
