To commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15), Juntos, Vroom’s Hispanic/Latin Employee Resource Group (ERG), organized festivities and information sessions aimed at celebrating the different histories and cultures within its community. “There are 21 countries in Latin America, and while most of us share the Spanish language, each country and culture is unique and beautiful,” says Lead Process Excellence Specialist and Juntos Co-Lead Daniel Barrera. “Hispanic Heritage Month serves as a reminder to celebrate and support that diversity.” Throughout each week, Juntos shared insights and stories about Hispanic/Latin people, places, and traditions with colleagues at Vroom and UACC. The group also devoted its monthly meet-up, known as “Cafecito,” to an open discussion about the origins of popular terms, such as Hispanic, Latino/a, LatinX, Chican/a, Afrolatino/a, and their impact on personal identity. To wrap up the month, Juntos, supported by Vroom’s Fun Committee and members of the Black Excellence (BE!) and Women @ Vroom Empowered (W@VE) ERGs, hosted two events — one at Vroom’s Houston office and the other at UACC’s Fort Worth location. The lively gatherings featured games, traditional appetizers and sweets, and a Salsa lesson led by a popular Houston-based dance instructor. “Our goals as an ERG are to create a safe space for Vroom’s Hispanic/Latin community to come together and to introduce others to our dynamic culture,” says Transaction Specialist and Juntos Co-Lead Malhissa Reyes. “This event checked both of those boxes, and it was a joy to witness.” #hispanicheritagemonth #erg #whatdrivesyou
