What is powder coating and how does it work? Powder coating is a type of finish that can be applied to metal parts. Powder (that has an electrostatic charge) is applied to a grounded part via a spray gun. The coated part is then cured in a specialized oven using heat. While the powder cures, the pigments mixed with resins within the powder chemically react. Once the part comes out of the oven, it cools to create a hardened, durable coat.
