World Glaucoma Week is observed every year in the second week of March and this year it is from March 12 to 18. It primarily aims to create awareness among people about this debilitating condition that impacts countless people across the globe and preach the need for early diagnosis to slow the progression of glaucoma. This global health initiative is a collaboration observed by the World Glaucoma Association (WGA) and the World Glaucoma Patient Committee (WGPC), to increase awareness in people about the necessity and importance of getting routine eye check-ups to detect asymptomatic glaucoma right in the initial stage and save eyesight. When it comes to heart valve disease, research shows that aortic stenosis impacts women differently than men, which must be addressed to ensure timely treatment and save lives. Women have long been underrepresented in clinical heart research — leading to gaps in detecting, treating, and setting standards of care for heart disease. Further, published data shows that women are up to 35% less likely than men to receive either of the available treatment options (TAVR and SAVR) to treat aortic stenosis.¹﹐² Earlier this month, we hosted a powerful roundtable discussion focused on reshaping the future of women’s heart health. We saw clinicians, patient advocates, and policy leaders all come together in one space to work towards the same goal - elevating the future of women’s health.
