Today, we had a fantastic opportunity to visit Stockholm Exergi, which kindly hosted the regular meeting of Bioenergy Europe's Working Group on Carbon Dioxide Removals. The facility itself is very impressive, but the future lies on this small container in the photo: the pilot unit installed to test biogenic CO2 capture. The fundamentals of the technology are there, but there are so many other components that are needed to make this a reality: policy support, robust methodologies, a sound business case... A big challenge but one that the team of Stockholm Exergi can definitely handle. We will need carbon removals at large scale in the future, deployment takes time, so it is imperative that policy makers create an enabling policy framework. In theory this could be the easiest, but the practice is always a little different... Many thanks to Johan Börje and the team for hosting us and several of our members! Vianode has been selected as IPCEI EUBatin associated partner to support accelerated industrialisation of Europe’s battery value chain 🔋🚗 The transnational IPCEI program aims to bring green transition innovations to market at scale more quickly through European industrial cooperation, public-private partnerships and possibilities to offer exemptions from public support regulations. IPCEI EUBatin is the second part of a two-stage IPCEI program seeking to drive industrialisation across the battery value chain. The battery IPCEI programs include public support of EUR 6 billion which is expected to trigger around EUR 14 billion in additional private investments. “Competitive framework conditions and public support programs are essential for the development of new industries. Vianode is a vehicle for industrial scale-up of sustainable battery materials production and decarbonisation of the EV and battery value chains. ENDURE, a research and innovation project funded by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, kicked off in Tallinn, Estonia, on 9 and 10 January. The main objective of the project is to improve the current density and stability of #alkaline #electrolysers, thereby elevating their performance to a new level. Publicly available durability data on alkaline electrolysers is scarce; therefore, these efforts will contribute to enriching the scientific community’s understanding of current density and stability of electrolysers. More specifically, the goal is to drastically decrease the degradation rate and increase the efficiency of alkaline #cells and #stacks via the development of hierarchically structured flow-engineered monolithic porous transport electrodes, via design/material improvements on stack level, and via accelerated testing procedures. The project consortium consists of Stargate Hydrogen (project coordinator), Fraunhofer IFAM, Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung Baden-Württemberg (ZSW), Fundación Hidrógeno Aragón, and Université catholique de Louvain.

To be successful on a global scale in reducing climate change, the commercialization of #zeroGWP, #energyefficient, and non-toxic #refrigerant technology is more important than ever.
