VTA Board Members, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan and Santa Clara County Supervisor Cindy Chavez speaking for all of us at VTA to thank the Federal Transit Administration and President Biden for an historic investment of $5 billion in the Silicon Valley BART extension.
Hi, I'm San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, and I'm Supervisor Cindy Chavez and Chair of the County Board. And we want to say a huge thank you to the Biden Harris administration. We are so grateful for the 75,000 good green jobs. Thank you. Thank you for this historic investment in Silicon Valley's future and our economic competitiveness and opportunity for all.
Great! Since FTA did not give VTA enough money to build the unsafe single-bore option. Now is the time to pull the twin-bore option off the shelf, dust it off, and build the safer, cheaper to build and operate, and quicker to build twin-bore option. Looking forward to seeing this mega-project get build the right way. Thanks
A good LTT article on the then-new Waltham Forest Mini-Holland, from 2015.
“Right now too many don’t see the option of cycling or walking as practical, feasible or safe...In five years’ time I believe that attitude will be radically different and those people who embrace the opportunities Mini-Holland opens up will find themselves fitter, healthier and financially better off."
Did it work? Here's a Forbes article and a 30-minute video. See for yourself.

And here's LTT's coverage of what was going down in Waltham Forest back in April 2015, with contributions from Clyde Loakes and Jon Little, author of the Mini Holland bid that secured £27m from the London Mayor.

It's been so inspiring looking back at Waltham Forest's progress over the past 10 years in promoting active travel and a people centred / healthy streets approach to street design. However, while the progress is undeniable and positive changes are clear on the ground, we're still not hitting the heady ambitions outlined in 2015.
Your article includes - The council wants the modal share for cycling in Waltham Forest to rise from the current 2% to 10% by 2020. “In this borough 40% of journeys are done by one person in a car travelling less than three miles,” Little maintains. “These are the journeys that are transferrable.”
According to the Healthy Streets Scorecard website Waltham Forest cycling mode share is still at 2%. The highest outer London Borough is at 5% (Richmond Upon Thames) - https://lnkd.in/eq3duCMY
Will we hit the Mayor's target of 80% of all trips in London to be made on foot, by cycle or using public transport by 2041? Will we hit associated Net Zero and Vision Zero targets? What more can be done to support the positive work being done in areas like Waltham Forest and help other boroughs do the same? Can things be accelerated without creating a backlash from people who feel they are negatively impacted by the changes or don't feel included?
Trying to stay positive 😊

In 2023, the Port ranked first in the nation in handling automobiles, light trucks, farm and construction machinery, as well as imported sugar and gypsum. The Port ranked second in the country for exporting coal. In 2022, the Port ranked sixth for importing coffee, 119,000 tons worth $609 million.
Join us at the Pan African City Expo to hear Maryland Port Administration Executive Director Jonathan Daniels talk about the future of the Port of Baltimore and its relationship to the Port of Durban, with the second largest shipping container business in the entire continent of Africa. Maryland has an agreement with the Province of KwaZulu Natal, home of the Port of Durban. As the US is South Africa's largest trading partner, the Post of Baltimore is a critical part of maintaining that that strong relationship. Join us. https://lnkd.in/evW-cbcm

When you see the Key Bridge site up close, you understand the enormity of the challenge and the need to move forward urgently.
Maryland is grateful for all the bipartisan Members of Congress that are putting partnership over partisanship to help us fully reopen our Port and rebuild the Bridge.
On behalf of #RISE, thank you for the kind invitation #BusinessSweden and very nice to meet the deligates from Colorado.
