VVA Project & Cost Managers kicked off the Softball Season yesterday with two back-to-back games up against Benchmark Builders, LLC and Robert Derector Associates. And now for a play by play from Coach Perry Vella:   “We had our first games last night and I’ll start with our second game first, where we fell to the RDA engineers. I knew we were in trouble when a tape measure was brought out and they were preparing an as built of the field to gather information on divots in the infield they could hit for bad bounce base hits. We just had no chance.   Our first game was against Benchmark and their team of 20+ players. Our starting lineup had: Michelle Fede leading off playing second, Dylan A. Schedler batting second and pitching, Juan-Carlos Nadal playing left center and batting third, the old guy, me, batting fourth and playing short, Kevin Gold batting 5th and playing first, and injured, before the game! Aifric Prunty batting 6th and catching, speedy Alec Wisniewski batting 7th and playing left, Oliver Hilder, first timer, playing right center, batting 8th, vacuum Julio Pena playing 3rd and batting 9th, and Maxime “Max” Maurice batting 10th and playing right.   Benchmark started out fast, compiling a 7-run lead after 3 innings in this 7-inning contest. They were throwing change orders at us, and we just couldn’t put a stop to it until our QS guys got serious and after the third inning no more changes and no more runs! VVA started to chip away and in the 5th inning found ourselves down 7-2. We had some notable defensive plays, first with Michelle fielding her second line drive for an out after taking an earlier one to her knee which almost warranted the medical staff, but she toughed it out. Up next, Kevin Gold flashing the leather, on the hardest hit ball in the game and one hopping it on his backhand for an unassisted out at first base. Then Alec going at full speed for a foul ball crashing into the fence and hitting a metal pole, fortunately he was ok, but after the game the parks department gave me an invoice for the pole! In the 5th inning after Julio lead off with a walk, Michelle got on with a hit, then Dylan followed in kind, we found ourselves with bases loaded with our hoping to be savior JC at the plate. JC took the first pitch deep over the center fielder’s head for a bases clearing grand slam, the crowd, one in number, Michelle’s mom, went wild! After both teams put zeroes on the scoreboard in the 6th we went to the bottom of the 7th, our last time up down 7-6, and with two outs I looked into the bench and said while grabbing the bat to hit, I’m going to hit the ball to right and run as fast as I can. The first pitch was a ball, then on the second pitch………………….   We truly had a great time playing and just sharing time together as we continue to strengthen the bond and unique culture of what is VVA. Be well all and enjoy the weekend.”   #VVASoftballSeason #VVAProjectandCostManagers #projectmanagment #costmanagement #teambuilding
