Offshore #Brazil has become a very dynamic and interesting place recently. Between the explosion of the independents here and Petrobras' continued interest in Equatorial Margin exploration efforts there is lots to talk about. In this Thought Leadership piece for Rystad Energy I look at both sides of this offshore story and what it means for the sector in general. #latinamerica #oilandgas https://lnkd.in/gP--XjBn

North Sea 2024: Exploration boom in Norway, steady pace in UK Norway expects record exploration with 49 wells targeting 2.2 billion barrels (Bboe), focusing on the North Sea but with possible Barents Sea increase. Last year brought 15 discoveries (440 MMboe), mostly near existing infrastructure. Equinor remains dominant. UK sees 7 exploration wells aiming for 325 MMboe, with focus on infrastructure-led targets. One high-impact prospect (Skerryvore, 155 MMboe) exists. NEO Energy and Harbour Energy are most active players. Development plans face delays due to uncertainty and lengthy reviews. Ithaca's Cambo decision looms in March. #OilandGas #Offshore #Maritime

Exciting times ahead for Colombia's energy sector! #Occidental Petroleum Corp. and #Ecopetrol SA are set to drill the deepest #offshore in the ultra-deep waters of #Colombia, the Komodo-1 well. This venture will explore a promising 4-way anticlinal structure with a Class 3-AVO anomaly and a double flat spot. At an impressive depth of approximately 3,950 meters (nearly 13,000 feet), this well aims to break existing water-depth records while reaching turbiditic Mio-Pliocene sandstone reservoirs. This ambitious effort, supported by advanced marine-seismic technology, enables exploration at unprecedented depths and distances. As Colombia's onshore reserves decline, this project is crucial for tapping into the country's vast offshore potential. Adding to the excitement, #Petrobras recently announced a new offshore discovery in Colombia with the #Uchuva-2 appraisal well, reinforcing the region's natural gas potential. Together, these developments signal a promising future for Colombia's #energy landscape. For more information on this and other #exploration-related insights, feel free to reach out to Rystad Energy

As Namibia's offshore oil and gas sector experiences a remarkable boom, striking similarities with South America's Pelotas Basin are emerging. Both regions share intriguing geological features, particularly in their structures and reservoir systems, hinting at significant hydrocarbon potential. Thanks to recent breakthroughs in seismic imaging and geophysical technology, the potential for major discoveries is greater than ever. Namibia's offshore success highlights how frontier basins can evolve into prolific discoveries, when advanced exploration techniques align with strategic investments. At TGS, we are strategically positioned to unlock the vast potential of the Pelotas Basin. Our seismic coverage extends across most of the ANP blocks in the basin, reaching the border of Uruguay and a section of the Southern Santos ANP Basin, all the way up to the salt limit. This includes 55 awarded blocks, 133 permanent offer blocks, 59 blocks under study, and 59 nominated blocks. 🌍 With the right combination of technology, expertise, and exploration strategy, the Pelotas Basin could mirror the transformative discoveries happening across the Atlantic in Namibia. #TGS #Petrobras #Seismic #Geophysics

📢Upstream National News 🗺 Eni Makes Significant Discovery Offshore Mexico 🌊 A major discovery at the Yopaat-1 EXP exploration well in Block 9, located 63 kilometers off the coast in the mid-deep waters of the Cuenca Salina in the Sureste Basin, Mexico. Preliminary estimates suggest the well holds around 300-400 million barrels of oil equivalent (Mboe) of oil and associated gas. Drilled in a water depth of 525 meters, the well reached a total depth of 2,931 meters and encountered about 200 meters of hydrocarbon-bearing sands in the Pliocene and Miocene sequences. The Block 9 joint venture includes Eni (50%, operator) and Repsol (50%). This discovery, alongside others in Eni-operated Blocks 7 and 10, enhances the value of Eni’s asset portfolio in the Sureste Basin. Eni’s resources in the area now exceed 1.3 billion barrels of oil equivalent (Bboe), paving the way for potential future developments. Eni has been active in Mexico since 2006, establishing Eni Mexico S. de R. L. de C.V. in 2015. It is the main foreign operator in the country with rights in eight exploration and production blocks in the Gulf of Mexico.
