An excellent model for a 10-year vision. Can't help but succeed mightily when striving for that level of strategic innovation.
Universal Music Group is the #1 company in the world at finding the most talented musical artists and turning them globally renown superstars. It inspired our 10 year vision for Quiltmind: To be the #1 company in the world at finding the most talented CEOs & Executives and turning them into global renown superstars. Bill Ackman said he invested in Universal Music Group because people will always love music. The medium by which it's delivered may change over time but there's little chance at a future where there is not a global captive audience for amazing music. I think the same is true of business and innovation. The in-vogue business models may change, but people will always want to learn the newest strategies from the best in the world.

I help Independent Artists acquire the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the Music Industry
Many artists set goals such as obtaining a record deal, being featured on editorial playlists, or securing sync deals… but these outcomes are largely beyond your control. Even if you do everything right, your chances of achieving those goals are still very limited. It is better to set goals related to the steps you can take to enhance your chances of success, rather than focusing solely on the desired outcomes. What are the things that when you do them will increase your chances of obtaining a record deal, sync deal, or editorial placement? Set your goals around those things. Instead of saying, "my goal this year is to get a sync deal," you should say, "my goal this year is to reach out and pitch my music to 100 sync publishers." This shift in perspective allows for greater control. Focusing your energy on the things you can actually control, will always be a winning strategy. #music #musicbusiness #musicindustry #musicians

Super useful comparison from Remi Brand showing how music and TV face both similar and nuanced workforce challenges when it comes to progressing people from Global Ethnic Majority, Disabled and Working Class groups. Also women just aren't staying in senior roles in either sector. Lots of dots to be joined in how both sectors can learn from each other and put in place consistent strategies to support and nurture their creative talent 💡
We know that the TV industry has its challenges when it comes to representation, inclusion and even work culture - but what about the wider creative sector? Does the music industry, for example, face the same challenges? And if so, why do the creative industries struggle in this way? Could the solutions be the same? In this blog, our marketing manager Remi, who’s already stepped into the music industry himself, looks at the two industries side by side to see if the solutions may be better composed with a collective approach. https://lnkd.in/eR8WZA2J Creative UK Creative Diversity Network (CDN) UK Music Ltd #TVIndustry #MusicIndustry #CreativeSector #EDI #DiversityAndInclusion #WorkCulture

Penske Media now owns or has invested in these media companies covering music and entertainment: - Variety - The Hollywood Reporter - Billboard - Rolling Stone - VIBE - Deadline - Music Business Worldwide - Sportico - Luminate - Sportico - SXSW - Gold Derby - Dick Clark Productions, and dozens of others. How have the acquisitions shaped these companies? How does this impact the coverage and the industries they cover? Pros and cons? Where would these businesses be as standalone entities? We covered all that and more in our latest episode of Trapital, "Why Penske Bought All The Media Companies." I'm joined by Bill Werde, former Billboard editorial director and author of Full Rate No Cap newsletter. Music Executive | Talent Manager | OAP @Smailz 98.7Fm | Voice Over Artist |Podcast Nominee for the APVA awards 2024 Praised for Vocal Versatility, Developing artists and Heading Operations
The music industry has always thrived on creativity, talent, and deep connections to the art form. Traditionally, music executives were former artists or producers or individuals with a deep passion for music who understood the creative process. However, more non-music professionals are now stepping into executive roles, which raises concerns about the future. Running a music label isn’t like running a typical business. Music is emotional and cultural, not just a product. Non-music executives often focus on short-term profits, undervaluing the artist's journey and pushing for quick-hit trends. This mentality can lead to homogenized, shallow music that prioritizes streaming metrics over artistry. Music has historically been at the heart of cultural movements, but when leaders prioritize marketability over creativity, the industry risks becoming a conveyor belt of manufactured content. While business acumen is vital, balance is key. The best executives are those who appreciate both the business and artistic sides of the industry. As the industry evolves, we must ensure leadership understands and respects the creative process. This is essential for keeping the music industry a place where artists can thrive, inspire, and drive culture forward. #my2cents #musicbusiness #musicexecutives

Music Supervisor for the Oscar Contending Film "Iron Temple," Musician & Director || I Create Content for Pop & Latin Music Brands || Keynote Speaker #Tedx
This could be a controversial take depending on who you talk to. I believe to get the most out our music brands you need to think beyond the music. The most successful musicians whether indie or major aren't betting on their music only. Streaming can get you exposure but for 99% of artists it won't translate to financial success. Thus, we have to put our eggs into different baskets. Whether it's merchandise, events, sync, podcasting, brand deals, etc. We all who are building our brands need to remember that we're a business. Let's be frank and pragmatic. I feel we have to put our biases aside and look at thr bigger picture. Music is a catalyst for newer opportunities and byproducts. Starting a music brand involves calculated risk. You only mitigated when you invest into other things that can make it flourish long term. #musicbusiness #musicindustry #musicians ##musicsupervisors
