Minor edits to digital images are both acceptable and common, but a ‘take down’ notice is not something that news agencies issue lightly. It literally gets people out of bed, and it's a big thing. Knowing if an image has had adjustments made to it if an AI tool has been used in its creation or editing, or if there is a gap in an image’s history ('digital provenance) can tell you a lot of things.
