AMEC CEO Warren Pearce emphasized the urgency of securing Australia's critical minerals supply chains to support decarbonisation efforts and create thousands of new jobs. The industry is closely watching for clear support or alternative measures from political leaders. 🗣️ "Securing our critical minerals supply chains is essential. The CMPTI not only safeguards existing jobs but also has the potential to create thousands of new ones for Australians." - Warren Pearce, AMEC CEO. 2️⃣ Western Australia’s Workplace Safety Improvement New statistics reveal an impressive 83% reduction in fatal workplace injuries in Western Australia compared to 34 years ago. However, manual handling remains a significant challenge, accounting for 40% of lost work time. For drilling professionals, focusing on ergonomic training, site inspections, and vehicle safety is crucial to further reduce injuries and associated costs. 🔍 Key findings include: 49.5 fatalities per million workers in 1988/89 vs. 8.5 in 2022/23. Manual handling and tripping hazards continue to be major contributors to lost time and financial costs. 💧 Water Review to Support Sustainable Development in Queensland's Gulf Region The Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC) is actively participating in the Gulf Regional Water Assessment (GRWA) Stakeholder Advisory Group, a two to three-year initiative aimed at evaluating and improving water infrastructure in Queensland's Gulf region. The GRWA will assess current systems, project future water demand, and identify new projects to enhance water security for industrial and agricultural activities while ensuring environmental sustainability. Running concurrently is the Gulf Water Plan review, focusing on modernizing water management policies to address contemporary challenges. AMEC will ensure the mining sector's needs are represented throughout both processes.
