🏆🤩 On June 20th, the WUR Impact Award will be presented!
The WUR Impact Award is made possible by the Wageningen Ambassadors and the University Fund Wageningen and will be presented to a team of WUR researchers that has distinguished itself and achieved tangible impact in the past years. The ceremony takes place during the Road to Impact event on Wageningen Campus. It often requires many extra steps to implement #knowledge into practice and to create societal value. The 5 nominated cases are an inspiration to all (aspiring) impact makers. Get to know their story of making impact by watching the video below!
This is the first year in which the Impact Award includes an audience award besides the jury prize, so it is especially important to support a team. Are you interested to learn more about the cases or do you want to help your favourite team win the award? Find more information and vote here: https://lnkd.in/enKBb6aJ#Award#Impact
🫶 Responsible Innovation and Scaling 🫶
Sharing this paper on responsible innovation and scaling (https://lnkd.in/dkgirzMb) by colleagues from Wageningen University & Research, University of California, Davis and CGIAR.
Responsible innovation and scaling is of growing importance to organizations such as CGIAR and increasingly demanded by funders. Responsible innovation and scaling is about being cautious about who benefits from (or misses out on) innovation scaling, as well as avoiding unintended consequences of scaling innovation (e.g. GHG emissions, malnutrition, environmental degradation, etc.).
GenderUp (https://lnkd.in/dqgK2MKy) is one of the tools that can support responsible innovation and anticipating negative impact and is fully compatible with the Scaling Readiness approach (www.scalingreadiness.org). CGIAR started monitoring what measures it is taking to promote responsible and inclusive innovation and scaling across its entire portfolio. More on that soon...

In the run up to the G20 Summit in India this weekend, INASP has been pleased to work with colleagues at the Center for Global Development on a new paper on reform of the global publishing system. We argue that the system is too important to be treated simply as an issue for science policy - it's a global development issue, and needs a global, development-focused response.
These aren't new issues, solutions haven't been easy to find, and there is much to build on with innovative approaches and strong movements for change. What's clear is that we need to renew our efforts and place global equity -- in the practice of research and the benefits that flow from it-- and public value, and openness to society at the centre. We believe new and genuinely global leadership has a vital role to play.

The International Science Council (ISC) is at the forefront of #Science#Missions for #Sustainability. It defines it as the science that actively engages with #society to address #complex#sustainability#challenges. These missions are characterized by their clearly defined goal and scope, #solution-oriented focus, and time-bound #nature. They are significant in scale and ambition and require inter- and #transdisciplinary approaches with a range of scientific disciplines and a variety of societal actors to produce action and #policy#outcomes.
The Science Missions for Sustainability is at its pilot stage, and a #consortium that can translate this idea into reality is crucial. The Global Sustainable Futures Network CIC (GSFN) has a similar approach and works as a consortium. Through its thriving membership, it can draw all the seven #expertise and #capabilities required by the ISC. This call provides an opportunity to demonstrate the rich GSFN network and experience built over time.
The Science Missions for Sustainability is responding to
HOW
Can we integrate science that works with society to generate actionable knowledge in pursuing transformations to sustainability?
GSFN is driven by collaborative transdisciplinary efforts, executing monthly summits to fast-track the achievements of the SDGs and accelerating societal transformation to sustainability through locally contextualised research-education-enterprise-community actions. GSFN is a #novel#collaborative consortium of #scientists and #scientificorganizations, #nongovernmental#organizations, #communities, and the #privatesector, working on the cutting edge of identifying solutions for complex sustainability challenges to #codesign targeted Science Missions for sustainability. We are intensely looking for institutions located in the Global South and those located in the Global North, to support the proposal.
GSFN Founder Dr Renuka Thakore, joined by enthusiastic sustainability leader Prof Shehu Akintola from Nigeria, is inviting you to join the consortium for this Pilot call. The call is to test the proposed model, thoroughly examining its execution, outcomes, and impact. Successful Pilots will set the stage for adapting and expanding the model. The Pilot project is for 18 months.
Please complete the expression of interest form by 5th May. To accommodate the most interested people, we will hold our first meeting on 6th May at 12:00 GMT. We will record the meeting for those who cannot attend.
Please find all documents related to this call here: https://lnkd.in/e4AQSrNp
Please invite your network to participate in this consortium and make a strong proposal.

Received this today!
I didn’t know I was into the SDGs from the beginning, interesting!
“After the UN designed the SDGs, the SDG research mapping initiative was established as a partnership between global institutions including universities and knowledge hubs such as Elsevier to bring together broad expertise and share best practices. In the SDG Research Mapping Initiative, Elsevier’s data scientists collaborate with Universities worldwide to share data, expertise, and best practices in sustainability research.”
It is great to get this recognition from Elsevier, a global leader in scientific, technical, and medical information which reflects the societal relevance and potential implications of our research in contributing to a sustainable and better future.
Another trigger to clear the table and reignite the research journey. Here we go!

Last week I had the opportunity to share the results of my PhD and of the TRUST project at the #ISIRC2023. While my PhD focused on understanding and exploring the potential of social innovation to create transformative capacity in communities, the TRUST project resulted in the development of social innovation strategies for sustainability transitions.
It was a great time to share experiences and discuss research related to social innovation with others working in this field.
