If you've ever had to treat a pet for heartworm disease, you already know how critical this condition is, how stressful it is for pets (they have to be kept calm and relatively still for months), and how incredibly costly it is to pet guardians. If you haven't, here are few things you should know in addition to the above*: - Dogs have been diagnosed with heartworm disease in every US state. - More than a million dogs in the US have this potentially fatal disease. - Year-round prevention is highly recommended, regardless of weather.. - Cats and ferrets can become infected, too. * American Heartworm Society Is your pet protected? 🐾 #Waggle #Waggleforpets #HeartwormPreventionMonth #HeartwormPrevention #HeartwormAwareness #PreventativeCare #Savepetslives #Pethealth #Petwellness

#TuesdayADA Attention Veterans and Service Dog handlers, a question that is often asked is: Are service dogs allowed in VA facilities? Yes. Service dogs of all breeds are allowed in VA facilities. This includes VA health facilities, Vet Centers, regional offices, and other properties owned or leased by the VA. To enter and remain in a VA facility, a service dog must meet all of these requirements: The dog must be trained to work or perform tasks for a person with a disability (including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or mental health disability). Dogs that provide only emotional support, comfort, or companionship don't qualify as service dogs. The dog must be under the control of its owner or another handler at all times. The dog must not enter areas where an animal could cause problems with patient care, safety, or infection control (like operating rooms). The VA does not allow any other animals in VA facilities, but may make exceptions for certain needs like police dogs or animal-assisted therapy. #publicaccess #veteransadministration #doglover #servicedog #servicedogtraining #earnthebond #therapydogs #workingdog #theheroacademy #k9

If you watch the video the kicker is at the end. Very interesting article. Bear in mind the fact that the US is full of bully type dogs so if they are as dangerous as claimed in the UK you would expect massive killing sprees, not this: "Although 4.5 million Americans are bitten by dogs every year, according to the World Health Organization, being fatally mauled is extremely uncommon. Just 81 people died after being bitten by dogs in 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. Experts say the number of annual fatalities from a dog bite is small enough that measuring year-to-year trends becomes difficult." [ . . . ] " . . . . in the vast majority of cases – 223, or 87.1% – no able-bodied person who could intervene was there. The second most common factor was the victim having an "incidental or no familiar relationship" with the attacking dogs (in 85.2% of cases). Other factors identified by the study had to do with the dogs' previous treatment and interactions with humans. In most attacks, the victim's ability to interact appropriately with dogs was "compromised" or the dogs had been isolated from human contact. Most attacks also involved non-neutered male dogs." https://lnkd.in/e_U4kbGc

In Texas, if your dog bites someone, quarantine is required to ensure public safety and to monitor for diseases like rabies. Depending on the situation, the quarantine can last between 10 to 14 days and take place either at home or in a vet clinic. This process helps protect others and ensures that the dog’s health is closely watched. Dog owners, you’re responsible for covering any costs related to quarantine, so it’s important to take preventive measures to avoid these situations. 🐕🏥 #DogBiteAwareness #PublicHealth #TexasPetLaws #ResponsiblePetOwnership #DogSafety
