The Platform Awards recipients were nominated by Chicago-based academics, field experts, and cultural leaders and chosen by a national panel of established practicing artists. Panelist Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, MFA, Artistic Director of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, is a trailblazing leader who began her role in 2021 after a stellar career as a dance artist and educator. She is the first alumna, woman, and person of color to lead the Company. Born in Baltimore, Fisher-Harrell trained at the Baltimore School for the Arts, Capitol Ballet, The AILEY School, and The Juilliard School. As a dance educator, she’s been a Professor of Dance at Towson University since 2005, contributing significantly to the Ailey legacy and establishing AileyCamp Baltimore.
