"Tarot reader and mindfulness coach Effie Kalaitzidis led a group of 20 clients out onto a Chicago hotel terrace to bask in the glow of the summer sunset. Each guest sat in a wooden chair and clutched a crystal they'd previously selected—pyrite, black onyx, peridot, etc. Kalaitzidis then taught them how to cleanse, charge, and meditate with their chosen stone." Thank you, Thrillist, for covering the wellness events we offer guests and the local community in the Waldorf Astoria Chicago Spa. https://lnkd.in/et7eKEDi

Exciting news! Our latest episode of the One Humanity Lab is now live! 🌍🎧 In this episode, Bonnie Buckner, PhD and I sit down with Henry Shukman, a poet, author, and Zen Master in the Sanbo Zen lineage to discuss spiritual development and cultivation of awareness and habits of mind. Henry explains how each person can find their way in the world and how meditation is about coming home to oneself, especially in moments of overwhelm—a feeling most of us can relate to. He reminds us that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to meditation and finding one’s deeper self. For those starting, Henry’s app, The Way, offers a guided introduction to meditation, making it accessible amidst the overwhelming number of options available. Addressing the often-discouraging long path of spiritual growth, Henry shares the shifts he has experienced over the years and the journey he still sees ahead of him. It’s about the process, not the end goal. He discusses this in his book, “Original Love.” Henry also opens up about his concussion and difficult recovery, which helped him realize he was experiencing the world with more “heartfulness,” turning his injury into a blessing. He explains why heartbreak, though dreaded by many, can be a valuable teacher. We conclude our conversation with a discussion of Henry’s book, “Original Love,” which serves as a manifesto, map, and manual for spirituality in the twenty-first century. This essential guide replaces the concept of original sin with original love as the true foundation of life. We know you will leave this conversation feeling rejuvenated and maybe even inspired to begin your journey of meditation if you’ve been interested but hesitant to start. A friend recently shared an article that made me reflect on the role of spirituality in our everyday lives—like a gentle breeze that quietly shifts the course of a bird in flight. The insights shared challenge conventional perspectives about spirituality, revealing how accessible and varied these practices can be for everyone, regardless of their background or beliefs. Here are some noteworthy takeaways that might resonate with you: - What does spirituality look like for you? It's much broader than organized religion. It's about personal connections, individual experiences, and finding meaning in the small moments. How do you define your own spiritual practices? - Routine vs. spontaneity. The article discusses structured rituals and spontaneous practices alike. Do you find comfort in set routines, or do you prefer seizing spontaneous moments for reflection and connection? Is there a middle ground that works for you? - Mindfulness amidst chaos. In a world that often feels overwhelming, integrating mindfulness can act as our anchor. Can just being present transform how we engage with our work and relationships? Have you tried mindfulness techniques that have positively impacted your day-to-day life? - The importance of community. While solitude can offer deep introspection, there’s also value in community rituals and shared experiences. Which have you found more enriching? The quiet stillness of being alone, or the vibrant connection with others emphasizing shared practices? - Evolving practices. Just as we grow and change, so should our spiritual practices. Reflecting on your journey, how often do you adapt your beliefs and practices to fit your current self? Is it a gradual evolution or a conscious decision to explore new avenues? Engaging with spirituality seems to reflect our broader quest for understanding in an ever-changing world. I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences on this subject. What practices bring you peace or insight? How do you approach spirituality in your daily life? Let’s embrace the conversation and explore this nuanced topic together. https://lnkd.in/gCM2NST8

"Contemplation, in this sense, refers to a diverse suite of practices and emergent experiences born from the capacity of the human mind to know itself – a feature shared with a few animals, including chimpanzees, bottlenose dolphins and magpies – but, more so, from the mind’s ability to transform itself. Contemplative practices harness this capacity to transform and enhance individuals, communities and lived worlds (including social, cultural and ecological worlds). Across times and cultures, humans have devised a capacious repertoire of practices used to free the self from its felt confines, improve wellbeing, and access new knowledge about being human. Contemplation is popularly associated with mindfulness and yoga, but it’s a big umbrella that covers many other practices, including techniques to cultivate prosocial emotions (such as compassion), to use the imagination to shape perceptions, to appraise and analyse critical topics, to contextualise the self within broader contexts, and to push the body and mind to total exaltation. By refining skills such as attentional balance, emotional regulation, empathic response, perspective-taking and bodily awareness, practices of contemplation help us navigate and modulate the human experience. Historically, practices of contemplation were inextricable from the rest of life, including its cultural, philosophical, cosmological and religious dimensions. But since at least the 16th century in the West, due to the systematic rupture with traditions of contemplation, cultural attitudes towards contemplation have gotten skewed. It has consequently been marginalised in many societies, and people have grown estranged from it. ... The cultivation of such skills – selective attention, intersubjective awareness, listening – can be applied to day-to-day situations to bring benefits in other areas of life. A young person who intentionally cultivates these skills through contemplative practices is likely to more easily focus on tasks and monitor ongoing distractions (whether it be their phone or an off-topic thought), reappraise their emotions about a friend, and dedicate full attention to a conversation. Contemplative practices, if performed regularly, train the cognitive, emotional, imaginal and embodied dimensions of being human. For instance, attentional practices are understood to restructure cognitive processing in ways that significantly affect performance, which includes enhancing working memory, inhibitory control and executive functions (such as decision-making). Practices that emphasise the ability to monitor the contents of one’s awareness increase divergent thinking – a generative style of thought that lends itself to greater creativity and problem-solving. Embodied practices such as sustaining a certain physical posture, moving the body mindfully or attending to a sense perception can enhance motor awareness, kinaesthetic sense and tactile sensitivity." #education #contemplation #innerlife #ethics

Business doesn't go hand in hand with spirituality! Or does it!!! I believe the two are so intertwined it is crazy. Hear me out...... So, what does it mean to be 'spiritual'? I think there is a lot of misconception around this topic so I wanted to break it down by answering two fundamental questions. 1. What is spirit? Spirit essentially means energy, as science has proven this world and everything on it is governed by unseen laws. However only with a curious mind would we want to understand and therefore investigate further. 2. So, what is spirituality? If spirit means energy then I define spirituality as purposefully working with energy (unseen world) to consciously create in the physical world. This is what is commonly referred to as manifestation. Whether we realise it or not we are always creating our future in the now, so how do we purposefully (keyword here) work with energy to create the life we want? Firstly we need to understand that everything is energy, from the food we eat, to the conservations we engage in, the programmes we watch, to the work we do and in any interaction we are either absorbing or releasing energy. I recommend seeing your energy like a bank account, are you adding to it or taking away from it? By being mindful of what you spend your energy on you see where you are depleting or increasing your energy supply. The following work for me in building my energy up, hopefully they work for you too: 1. Meditation Scientifically proven to increase telomerase in the body, a life increasing chemical naturally created by our bodies 2. Conscious breathing Scientifically proven to increasing oxygen levels in the body which reduces stress and eradicates disease (check out Wim Hoff) 3. Showing an attitude of gratitude Scientifically proven to rewire the brain to see the good in situations 4. Exercise Both cardiovascular and weight work 5. Consuming healthy food and drink Drop out the refined sugar, alcohol and non organic foods. I focus on eating more foods that have been electronically charged by the sun and magnetically charged by the earth 6. Positive conversations Be aware of the ones you have with yourself but also the ones you have with others, keep clear of any form of gossip as your words create your situations 7. Music Which has the power to either lift you up or bring you down. Music is frequency and is a key influencer in affecting your mood, understanding the intention behind an artist and their music is key. I’d recommend cutting out most mainstream music As a last note, spirituality is synonymous with being conscious and having discipline (where the word disciple comes from) so in this instance 'being spiritual' means consciously choosing to add energy to your body, mind and soul by living a disciplined life. Once you do that you will attract more higher frequency situations, health, wealth, relationships etc. Your power resides in the choices you make, make them wisely!

#newdaynewchapter Basking in the sun is the best way to welcome your day with positive energy. Since ancient times the people believed that sunlight has healing powers. So, take a cue from the ancestors and let the morning light embrace you. Warm and rosy sunshine has healing power in it, let it wash over you. Let water cleanse you: Rivers, lakes, and oceans are granted an important place in almost every religion because they are known to purify the mind, body, and spirit. So if you want to purge the negative energy, go to a lake, river, or ocean and immerse yourself in it (with caution). If you don’t wish to venture out, you can fill your bathtub with some Himalayan sea salt, a few drops of your favorite essential oil (lavender, rose, chamomile), and you are all set to soak in! The white light meditation technique is used by people around the world. This meditation helps us to tune into the natural healing rhythms inside the body and help us to tap into the highest form of healing energy. To cleanse your aura through this technique, you need to sit comfortably (keeping your spine straight) and gently close your eyes. After this, you have to visualize a white light above your head. Then let it slowly enter the crown chakra (top of your head). And then let the light move beyond it and cleanse all the other chakras within you. Allow yourself to soak in the beauty of the nature surrounding you. Listening to the bird song, the sight of the horizon, the touch of the breeze will have a calming effect on you. You don’t have to wander far off to notice the beauty, it is there around you, in the smallest things. You can also try the ancient aura cleansing practice of smudging. You just have to pick up some herbs (thyme, cedar, white sage) wrap them in a bundle, and then light the end of it with a matchstick. Now, let the smoke pass gently pass over you. It’s better to keep the windows open. Prayers and positive affirmations have miraculous effects on our aura. The people who pray and practice affirmations find it easier to remove the negative energy field and replace it with a positive one. Pick up a suitable time in a day and get ready to say the prayers or chant the mantras you prefer. Allow them to move you from the darkness towards light. Om Shanti
