Yes, it isn't a statutory body, but the Western Gateway is a cross-border collaboration that has shone a much needed light on investment opportunities across South Wales and the West of England over the last four years. There is mutual interest (and shouldn't be seen as a threat to devolution) for both economies - while healthy competition will remain - coming together to make the case for investment and trying to counter what have been 'sharper elbows' in the north of England. However, the Western Gateway Partnership's voice and influence will be significantly curtailed if the UK Government follows through by pulling its core funding Huw Thomas Sarah Williams-Gardener
