Most funded web series: • Long application process • Selected by a committee • Long development process • Commit to at least 10 episodes • Are VERY expensive This approach makes much more sense: • Short development process • Tiny team • Fast turn around • Committed to 2 episodes • Inexpensive This approach is much lower risk - higher reward. If it resonates with an audience, double down and make more. If it doesn't, pivot and make something else. This is something that funding bodies will never understand. They think big and shiny is the answer. In reality, this can be detrimental to video on socials. So go out there and make something cheap. I started frame-by-frame animation about a year ago. In this exercise, I tried to challenge and improve my ability in frame-by-frame animation, so I went to ballet dance, which has complex and beautiful acts. Test footage and unused clips! When animating my Final Major Project, 'La Tempesta di Ariel', (as with any animated project) I had many tests and clips that remained unused in the final product. A lot of times in animation, I have a set idea of what I want to happen next; but suddenly I realise the scene doesn't make sense anymore, so I cut it out! There were a LOT more clips than what you are about to see; but I hope this little insight into some behind the scenes can entertain and maybe even inspire some budding animators out there. If I've learnt anything, it's to keep pushing until you hit a brick wall (then you know what won't work!)
