Kudos and congrats to Morristown Medical Center for being ranked #3 in the category of major teaching hospitals in the Fortune list of top 100 hospitals in the country. Top major teaching hospitals 1. Intermountain Medical Center (Murray, Utah) 2. NYU Langone Hospitals (New York City) 3. Morristown (N.J.) Medical Center 4. Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (Philadelphia) 5. Houston Methodist Hospital 6. Mayo Clinic in Rochester (Minn.) From Becker's: The "Fortune/PINC AI Top Hospital List" is based on an analysis of Medicare data, including clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, patient experience and financial health. Researchers from PINC AI analyzed data from 2,601 acute-care, nonfederal U.S. hospitals in small, medium and large community hospitals, and teaching and major teaching hospitals. The analysis included a survey-based measure to capture the hospital's contribution to health and health equity in its community, an April 16 joint news release from Fortune and PINC AI said. The top hospitals outperformed their peers in all 10 key performance indicators. If all hospitals performed like the top 100 hospitals, more than 350,000 additional patients would be saved, more than 607,000 individuals would not have in-hospital complications and more than 16,6000 patients would not have 30-day readmissions. All of these outcomes could amount to more than $17.6 billion in savings, according to the release

Though the term “hospitalist” was first coined in 1996 in the New England Journal of Medicine, the role of hospital-based physicians has become increasingly essential in recent years. As physicians’ workloads skyrocketed and hospital services became more complex, the role of hospitalist has emerged as a necessity to meet the challenges of the rapidly evolving healthcare system. In fact, across the U.S., the number of hospitalists has grown from fewer than 1,000 to more than 60,000, as of 2020. As patient demand continues to grow and specialists face increasing pressure, hospitalists play a critical role in optimizing patient care and alleviating burnout among physicians. Healthcare System Set To Break Ground on New Hospital in Suburban San Antonio University Health of San Antonio is set to commence construction on a new five-story, 589,743-square-foot hospital in Selma, Texas, starting March 17, with completion targeted for September 17, 2026. Named University Health Retama Hospital, the project, estimated at $480 million—lower than an initial $600 million projection—marks a significant expansion for the healthcare provider. The hospital aims to open in late 2026 or early 2027, offering comprehensive services including a 24/7 emergency department, labor and delivery, radiology, pharmacy, neonatal intensive care, and more, within a facility that initially provides 166 beds, with potential expansion to 286. Strategically located along the Austin-San Antonio corridor, this development underscores the ongoing economic impact of the healthcare industry in the region, which contributes over $44 billion annually. University Health, distinct from the similarly named entity involved with Cano Health, underscores its commitment to enhancing medical infrastructure and services in Bexar County and its surrounding area. Here's another in the "no surprise here" series on hospitals: "CMS updated its Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings on July 31, assigning one star to 276 hospitals. Every year, CMS assigns star ratings to U.S. hospitals based on 46 hospital quality measures divided into five categories: mortality, safety, patient experience, readmission rates, and timely and effective care. Data reporting periods range from July 2019 to March 2023, depending on the measure. This year, 29 more hospitals received a one-star than last year." Looking at the reporting period for data collection, we know or perceive that a lot has changed in hospitals since 2019. I would guess more hospitals are functioning at a one-star rate today. Today, I cross two states' lines to receive my care in Boston at a 5-star hospital where I have received primary care and more for 31 years. In 31 years, I have only had two primary care physicians; stability and access I do not take for granted. While the bar is set very high for me, it saddens me how low it is for others, with many without access to care. Settling in medicine is not something I am willing to do, but I know others have no choice. What are your thoughts? 🌟 #patientsafety #hospitalquality #cmsstarratings #transparency #accountability #healthcareonlinkedin #exitstrategies #patientaccess https://lnkd.in/dyhRHuw2

Helping pre-retirees have more time, with tax efficient retirement paycheck for life, no market risks for wealth transfer and estate plan
Based on the search results, there are significant cost differences between Stanford Hospital and other hospitals in the area, including Valley Medical Center: For a two-view chest X-ray, Stanford Medical Center's estimated cost was $1,908, which was 19 times higher than Santa Clara Valley Medical Center's estimate of $98. For a level 4 emergency room visit, Stanford Medical Center's estimated cost was $7,328, which was $6,764 more expensive than Alameda County Medical Center's estimate of $564. For an MRI of the lower back, the lowest amount Aetna paid Stanford Hospital was $3,221, which was twice as much as Aetna's lowest payment of $1,405 to Sequoia Hospital, a nearby facility. Despite the higher costs, Stanford's quality of care for routine procedures is not consistently superior to other local hospitals. For example, Stanford's ICU mortality rate and patient satisfaction ratings were below those of Sequoia Hospital, though Stanford did perform better in patient safety. Stanford justifies its higher prices by citing its reputation for sophisticated procedures and its role in training new physicians. However, critics argue that Stanford's market power and strategic location allow it to charge premium prices, even for routine care.

Delivering high-quality healthcare while saving costs relies on efficient, value-driven care. We are navigating a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, particularly as we face the challenges of an ageing population both globally and in Singapore, where we are swiftly becoming a super-aged nation. Hospital occupancy and healthcare costs are rising, placing increased pressure on our systems. In this context, it becomes ever more critical that this care must be streamlined, sustainable, and above all, patient-centred. Achieving a balance between delivering high-quality care and ensuring cost efficiency and value-driven outcomes is essential to our mission of providing the best possible outcomes for those who rely on us. I would like to extend our deepest thanks to all our colleagues at #NUH, particularly Dr Diarmuid Murphy, the division of geriatric medicine, departments of orthopaedic trauma, nursing, rehabilitation, inpatient operations and our partner community hospital, St Luke’s Hospital, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in our success. Special thanks to the VDO team at NUHS for their support. Collaboration is the cornerstone of success in healthcare innovation. #Healthcare #PatientCare #ValueBasedHealthcare #NUHS #VDC #NUH #OrthoGeriatrics #Hipfracture Shikha Kumari Nazrul Nashi Reshma Merchant Francis Ho
