Our Wantable team recently got together to celebrate 2023! 🎉
Every team member and a guest was invited to attend a special off-site dinner hosted by one of our amazing executive & leadership team leads and afterwards, everyone met at the Wantable Cafe for a fun nightcap. 🍸 We loved the opportunity to connect with team members across different departments and raise a glass to the year ahead.
Together, we do incredible things, and we're looking forward to another amazing year of styling and fueling self-confidence for our customers! ✨
"You don’t rise to the occasion—you fall to your highest level of preparation."
Every Wednesday I post a leadership based scenario and a few questions to think about.
Then on Friday I push out a full deep dive into the scenario, breaking down any underlying principles and go through the questions highlighting best practises.
This week's scenario was about Sandra - a newly promoted manager.
You can check out the deep dive below:

2023 was another historic year for us at Raising Cane’s. To savor some of the memories, we put together a lookback video to share with all of our Crew. The first to see the video were our Multi-unit Leaders, Business Unit Teams and Dallas Restaurant Support Office Crew who gathered in Dallas for our 2024 Kickoff Meeting – which just wrapped up today. Big things took place in 2023, and 2024 is set up for continued success. A big thank you to everyone who helps make it happen every day. Let’s go 2024!

For the team to grow you need to water them.
In my experience taking this as a metaphor works best
Getting your team wet might not be appreciated!
A few drinks occasionally can go down well.
Of course you know that all ready
Those wishing to grow prize tomatoes - will go to great lengths to create the right environment, feed them special things, protect them from slugs, some might even talk to them!
What special lengths are you going to encourage and enable your team to grow?
At Alt P we take great joy in seeing leaders and teams grow.
& occasionally get to enjoy some fruit we’ve grown ourselves.

Sometimes, Your Team Just Doesn’t Get It...And That’s Okay
Hate to say it, but sometimes even the best teams might not fully grasp your vision for your glorious brewery. Sure, they’re great folks—you might even have them over for Sunday lunch, have play dates at the park, pick up their dry cleaning and yes, you pay their wages, but when it comes to sharing your dreams and aspirations for the brewery, a baby which you have built from the ground up, they might just be in it for the paycheck.
And that’s perfectly normal; not everyone is as invested in making your brewery the best in the world, and you can't expect them to be!
For instance, say your mission is to become one of the first B Corps in your area. That's a noble goal, driven by purpose, but it might not twig with everyone on your team the same way it does with you.
Here’s where simplifying your mission into clear, actionable statements can make a huge difference. Creating a "We Will, We Won't" guide can simplify your mission in terms everyone can understand and relate to, think of it like a 'achieving goals for dummies' guide.
Here’s how it works:
We Will: Outline exactly what actions you’ll take to align with your mission.
We Won’t: Clearly state what you’ll avoid to stay true to your values.
Just three or four of these statements can transform a vague mission into clear, golden rules that guide your team's everyday decisions.
When your team understands these, they're more likely to align with your vision and help drive the brewery toward those big goals.
Curious about how to implement this in your brewery? Check out the video below to see me rambling through it, and if you wanna know more - smash that Message button!

When I was managing what felt like exorbitant amounts of stress and pressure in my leadership role, I finally stopped to look in the mirror. It wasn't all the circumstances... it was me. I was adding to the stress both I and my team was feeling because I was guilty of these two leadership sins that damaged my team's clear direction and vision for where we were going.

Life is a journey...and if you're part of a team you're on a journey together.
It's amazing how many people do 'team building' as a one-off and expect to miraculously be a High Performance Team. To be great takes time, effort, and commitment.
But it's worth it. We spent Friday with a team we've worked with for quite a while now and it's so rewarding to see how they are continuously developing to face changing challenges. They are so much more self-aware, aware of each other's differences and how they can stretch their leadership of a huge global brand.
We get so much from working with teams like this and it just reinforces why we do what we do.

What is your favourite pasty in the world? Hopefully it's a Carrs Pasties Ltd Pasty? If it's not yet, it soon will be...
Today I had the privilege of a site visit to Carrs Pasties with The Manufacturers' Alliance peer group of Operations Directors and Managers. Gavin Astley and Nicole McNulty did a fantastic job of showcasing the many elements of best practice they have introduced to the business. Some of the key learning for the peer group today were...
💡 How to transform the culture of a business to bottom up (the team at the coal face work autonomously and the leadership team support)
💡 How to engage your whole workforce in continuous improvement
💡 How to deploy your strategy with clear objectives and visual management
💡 How to set the right foundations for rapid growth
💡 And lots, lots more...
Joseph Carr, one of the three brothers that lead Carrs Pasties presented to the group the company's history, the essence of the Carr's brand, and the plans for the future, which includes....
Carrs Pasties being available to every household in the UK!
The new Veggie Pasty is my favourite pasty, which has overtaken my previous favourite, the Cheese & Jalapeno. It won't be long before your favourite pasty is a Carrs pasty too. 😋
A huge thank you to the Carr's team for your hospitality today, and for sharing your ideas so abundantly. It's great to be on the journey with you all.
So, what's your favourite pasty?
