Not all wounds are visible. June is PTSD awareness month, an opportunity to share information, resources, and treatment options for people experiencing PTSD. Post-traumatic Stress Disorder is a serious condition that is often misunderstood. Veterans are at a higher risk of developing PTSD. These brave men and women volunteered to put on a uniform to defend our freedoms and deserve our respect and support. By spreading awareness, we can help encourage those experiencing this condition to get the help they need and deserve. The following video gives an overview of facts, symptoms, treatment options, and resources for PTSD. If you are willing and able, share this video to help us spread awareness for this critical but treatable condition. Thank you to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, we included information from their site to help spread awareness on PTSD. Resources include: PTSD Foundation Of America USA Cares, Inc. Honoring PTSD Awareness Day: Support, Strength, and Solidarity Today, we observe PTSD Awareness Day, a time to acknowledge and support the many individuals who face the challenges of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. This day is particularly significant for our veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families and friends who stand by them through their struggles. 🌟 Highlighting the Courage of Our Heroes 🌟 At UWM VUB, we recognize the courage and resilience of those affected by PTSD. Our veterans and active-duty service members often confront extraordinary challenges, both on and off the battlefield. Their bravery doesn't end when the uniform comes off; it continues as they navigate the journey of healing and recovery. Support Systems Matter Families and friends play a crucial role in this journey. Their unwavering support, understanding, and love provide the foundation for those struggling with PTSD to find their way to recovery. Your compassion and dedication make a world of difference. What You Can Do: 🔹 Educate Yourself: Understanding PTSD helps reduce stigma and fosters empathy. Learn about the signs and how to support those affected. 🔹 Offer Support: Sometimes, a listening ear or a kind word can be a beacon of hope. Let those struggling know they are not alone. 🔹 Promote Resources: Share information about available support networks and resources for those dealing with PTSD. Today, we stand together in solidarity, honoring the strength and resilience of all who are impacted by PTSD. 💙 You are not alone. We are here for you. #PTSDAwarenessDay #SupportOurHeroes #Veterans #ActiveDuty #FamilySupport #UWMVUB

#PTSD isn't convenient. Everything that comes with it doesn't sit on a timeline. Panic doesn't set in at the best possible moment. It isn't pretty. It does not discriminate and it certainly doesn't make it easy for #veterans who are struggling to carve a path for themselves. When triggered, it can be wholly consuming and it can definitely affect your friends and acquaintances. PTSD doesn't care that #LinkedIn is "for business." If you see a veteran struggling, reach out. Sometimes the difference for a veteran surviving through a moment is in a phone call, or a message. REACH OUT no matter how worn the path. #REACHOUT when it's inconvenient, just to say, "I will call you when I am done." Reach out to share a resource. You never know. I asked for permission to repost. Thank you Peggy Frye-Ullom for sharing your vulnerability, for being honest during an episode when you are actively struggling and for sharing your journey even when it stirs up very strong feelings. If you know of any resources that can be helpful for a veteran actively going through a triggering episode, please share.
When it all comes crashing down at once the panic sets in. I find myself being the vulnerable at-risk veteran again and battling my PTSD symptoms. The fear of being homeless. The fear of not being able to handle the stress. The fear that everyone that says they want to help veterans are not truly in it to help veterans. When the ptsd gets activated you cannot even think of who to ask for help. It’s just survival mode and hoping you make it out of the hole in time. I risked everything to help this program. That’s on me.
