A huge thank you to Asda in leamington spa, who today provided us with the use of their car park, wash facilities and provided us with snacks drinks and sandwiches while we searched for a vulnerable high-risk missing person. The support and kindness we received from local businesses is always overwhelming. Many thanks from Warwickshire Search and Rescue. #community #HereToHelp #ASDA #thankyouforyoursupport #alwaysgreatful

Goodr and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens have partnered to open a free grocery store in Fulton County to address food insecurity among elderly residents and low-income communities in a food desert. Located at the William Walker Recreation Center, the store provides essential groceries to families and seniors struggling with rising food costs. This initiative builds on Goodr's ongoing efforts, including partnerships with Atlanta Public Schools and nationwide programs to combat hunger. https://lnkd.in/gdWJuZ4z

Have you heard about this? Burger King messed up on this one. Kevin worked as a dedicated employee at Burger King for 27 years. He never missed a day of work. For his 27th anniversary, they gave him a back pack with movie tickets and other small items. After this story hit the public (thanks to social media), over $400k was donated to Kevin. He retired and opened his own mobile food truck. Link in the comments with more details. #EmployeeAppreciation #HumanResources #AppreciationGifts #HeyyyHR

The line between having a charity and having a mission is an interesting one. This story is about a restaurant started by Michelin-star winning chef Adam Simmonds (who is also a recovering addict). The restaurant is staffed almost entirely by recently homeless people. The staff gets decent pay, training, and the ability to gain the skills to work in other high end restaurants. The food is gourmet, but the recipes are designed to be appropriate for the skill level of the staff. To me this says so much. Yes, it is important that a business make money. A business that is not profitable is a drain on all involved. But that does not mean profit has to be a business's sole reason for being. It is possible to do well by doing good. And organizations with a mission that benefits society do not have to be limited to being non-profit charities.

This is an atrocious misuse of power. I do understand the need to keep both animals and other residents safe, however, I have experienced firsthand how hard it is to house your animals when experiencing hardship. For one, the animal needs to be vaccinated, two you need to have connections, i.e., have applications with housing departments and Centrelink for the RSPCA to take your animals, as they can then create a plan for reunification, if the animals aren't collected within a certain time they will be rehomed or euthanised. Another issue at hand is asking homeless people to move to caravan parks etc., these people may only have the gift vouchers given to them by the homeless shelters, and that will only be for food. Caravan parks may only house people for certain periods, particularly during busy holidays, and ask them to move on, to what end? There is no empathy here for these people who need our help the most.

In our latest episode of #LaundromatNewsToday, we covered incredible stories of community impact, industry resilience, and inspiring success. Here are three of the stories for you: 🔹 Community Impact: Shout out to Josh and Caitlin Ferguson of "Cleanse and Renewal Laundry" in Oxnard. Their laundromat doubles as an outreach ministry, staffed by amazing individuals with disability superpowers. They've successfully raised thousands of dollars in toys and food for those in need over the holidays. 🔹 Resilience and Adaptation: Edward Gomez in Palatine has turned his laundromat into a 24/7 operation. This transition presents unique challenges and opportunities, paving the way for better community service and business growth. 🔹 Entrepreneurial Spirit: Kudos to Luke LeCroix in Northfield. Starting a laundry service from his garage and scaling it into a full laundromat business is nothing short of inspiring. It’s a testament to the power of passion and perseverance.
