Honouring Remembrance Day: A Time for Reflection and Unity As Remembrance Day approaches, it is crucial to reflect on the profound significance of this day and the importance of coming together to pay our respects to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Remembrance Day parades have long been a cherished tradition, serving as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our armed forces. It is our duty to honour and respect this solemn occasion. While we acknowledge and respect the right to peaceful protest and freedom of expression, it's vital that we come together to ensure that the Remembrance Day parades are conducted with the reverence they deserve. This weekend, let us put our differences aside and unite to show our respect for those who have given so much for our country. The Remembrance Day parades are not just an opportunity to remember the past, but also a chance to express our gratitude to the men and women who continue to serve in our armed forces today. Their sacrifices and dedication to protecting our freedoms should never be overshadowed or disrupted by other causes, regardless of how important those causes may be. As we commemorate Remembrance Day, all I ask that other organisations, regardless of their mission or beliefs, show their respect for this sacred day by refraining from any actions that could disrupt or overshadow the Remembrance Day parades. This is not a call for silence but rather a plea for understanding and unity during this weekend. We believe that by coming together as a community and putting our differences aside for this short period, we can demonstrate that our nation can find common ground and respect for the sacrifices of our armed forces. Let us pay tribute to the fallen, honour the living heroes, and strengthen the bonds of our society in the process. This Remembrance Day, let us remember that our differences make our society vibrant and diverse, but there are moments when we must stand united to show our respect for the sacrifices made on our behalf. As we honour the memory of those who gave their all for our freedom, let us remember that unity and respect can be as powerful as any cause. This week is an important beginning of idealistic views of who we are as a people. Wednesday is the celebration of the same date in 1865 when the last slaves were freed in Galveston, Texas. The potential idealism that fueled some during that moment as they headed into a new territory of freedom is overwhelming to imagine. Their dreams of freedom went from feeling like a fantasy to a possibility. And in just over two weeks, we will be celebrating the freedom and independence of our country from another power of dominance and oppression. Back then, there were sets of ideals and principles of a free nation that the founding Americans were willing to die for. But there are similarities in both instances. The days we mark as June 19th and July 4th are worth celebrating, but upon reflection, they also generate a reflection of all the action that was required then and is required now. At a team meeting this morning, there was an interesting ice breaker. Would you rather meet your great, great grandparents or your great, great grandchildren. Put into the context of these next two dates of celebration, I am not sure what would be more enlightening; bringing my great, great grandparents to now or my great, great grandchildren. What would they think of where we are, and the progress we have (and haven't made)? While there will be reminders of the divisiveness over the next two weeks, I plan to reflect with my family and three kids on all that has been accomplished. I plan to re-teach the ideals of what can be for all of us when we care about our fellow citizens and believe in the better world ahead of us. Happy Juneteenth Week, everyone.

The Four Personal Freedoms As we celebrate our 248th Independence Day on July 4th,  I want to encourage you to consider your personal freedoms — which you must choose and embrace if you are to be effective and happy. In his book 10X is Easier than 2X, Dan Sullivan makes the important point that you have four freedoms: 1. Freedom of Time by recognizing the value and quality of your time. You have focus/performance time; buffer time for practicing and organizing; and free/rejuvenation time. 2. Freedom of Money by appreciating the value and quality of your true wealth, which is qualitative and subjective. Money alone does not reflect your true wealth. 3. Freedom of Relationship with yourself and others. You have the possibility of forging healthy, valuable, deep and enduring relationships. 4. Freedom of Purpose builds on the first 3 freedoms and requires you to embrace the uniqueness that is you and pursue the purest expression of yourself. It means discovering your purpose for being and having a clear sense of your mission.
