Congratulations to Charissa Waters and the rest of the team with the Community Nature Foundation on securing their Capital Plus loan with WCRA for the expansion of their outdoor early learning program! They have a strong commitment to providing an enriching outdoor education for young children in the Olympia area. WCRA would like to thank the Washington State Housing Finance Commission for their continued partnership in the funding of this acquisition. The added space will allow the Community Nature Foundation even more opportunities to create memorable experiences and foster a love for learning outdoors. Their Fern Gully Forest School uses nature-based learning opportunities to facilitate their holistic approach to education. Now they will also be able to host educational community events to inspire curiosity and respect for nature in Olympia. We’re excited to see what will be next for the Community Nature Foundation and see how they will continue to spark environmental awareness in future generations!

All forms of early education is important, have you heard of a Forest School? The unique thing about those types of schools is that they offer a unique education through exploration of nature. Below is a link to Red Oaks Forest School in Kentucky that offers the unique experience. “Red Oaks Forest School is a place where friendships are made, connections to nature are formed and deepened, where learning happens in a play-based model, and where ecological lessons are offered at an age-appropriate level.” https://lnkd.in/d9-kmneC

This is a terrific opportunity for young Mainers: a fully-funded two-week adventure exploring Maine's woods and waters! "Thanks to generous funding provided by the American Rescue Plan Act, the Maine Department of Education, and the Maine Outdoor Learning Initiative, we are able to provide these amazing two-week summer programs at no cost to participating families."* -Direct from the program webpage As these are grant-based and true wilderness expeditions, the organizers can only go so far in offering accommodations for disabilities. That said, if you can meet the physical and personal demands outlined in the eligibility criteria, you should consider this opportunity, especially if you bring/represent a little difference. These organizations are all doing the work to make other outdoor learning programs more accessible and inclusive. *There is a little fine print to navigate around eligibility (household income, student age and ability, etc.) but the program is people-driven, so just drop them an email if you have questions. You will be able to talk to a human. Did you know that there are more than 100 SOURCES of federal funding that exist for after-school programs? 😱 Grants like these are essential for the sustainability of out-of-school-time (OST) programs. One of OST programs' most popular and prominent federal grants is the Nita M. Lowery 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant, otherwise known as the 21CCLC program. It’s also the ONLY federal funding source dedicated exclusively to supporting after-school programs. 💡 Watch this video to learn more about how it works, or head to the blog here to better understand federal funding sources/grants and generate long-term sustainability for your program. 👇 https://bit.ly/47OsiU4

🍎 As the school season ends and summer begins, let's advocate for housing solutions that allow children to flourish in their education. 🏡 For children, affordable housing helps them thrive by connecting them to quality schools, after-school support, and more. For the adults in their lives, affordable housing can provide a stable foundation and job support, allowing families to achieve economic mobility. ☀️ Want to fight the "summer slide" this break and bolster the lessons children learned in their prior school year? Consider investing in a summer program that helps your young residents maintain their educational milestones. 👉 To learn more about what your PHA can do to bolster education, read PAHRC's 2019 report, "A Platform to Learn," here: https://lnkd.in/eqW3K_Rt #HAIGroup #HAIGroupResearch #Research #Education #AffordableHousing #Children #School #SummerLearning #EconomicMobility #CommunitySupport

Seeking a solution for our expanding communities 🏠🌱 In the quaint setting of Kent, notable changes are stirring. As we watch new homes sprout around Cranbrook, our thoughts naturally turn to education. With family houses come children, and with children come the responsibility to provide quality schooling 🏫. That's the clarion call echoing from the heart of Kent's picturesque countryside. Cranbrook School's esteemed headteacher has spoken out for the need to reconsider the closed High Weald Academy. His voice isn't just a lone call in the wilderness; it reflects a concern shared by many, sparked by the sharp rise in local housing developments. Surely, those echoing halls and empty classrooms could once again be filled with the sounds of learning and growth. It's not about constructing new barriers but reopening doors, using existing resources to meet very real needs. How do we balance the scales between growing populations and sustaining the quality of education? Dialogue, cooperation, and perhaps a look at what's already before us. It's not merely about a single school's capacities; it's about fostering a thriving, educated, harmonious community. Let's start a conversation 🗣️ - Do you believe in breathing new life into the existing infrastructure to support our children's education? How have population changes in your region impacted local schooling options? Join the dialogue below or reach out to explore better possibilities at rikama-education.com.
