Last week I had the opportunity to attend ALLY Energy's Workforce of the Future Summit! Thank you Katie Mehnert for the opportunity to speak alongside Loretta Williams Gurnell and Stephanie Baskin on the importance of building community and programs to support future leaders in our energy workforce. Here's a few of my takeaways: 1) Representation is important. Currently, women and non-White populations are underrepresented in the energy industry. The share of the workforce for these populations is growing, but not fast enough. (Thank you Revelio Labs for the insights!) 2) Company support in education (at primary, secondary and university levels) is pivotal to developing effective and inclusive energy workforces. 3) The energy transition requires a deep pool of talent in a highly competitive workforce. Companies who prioritize making this transition and making it equitably will be more successful at attracting and retaining the talent they desire.
