For anyone frustrated by the state of our gun laws and our political system in general, here are two actions you can take, the first of which is very relevant to LinkedIn members. 1. If you work in the private sector, ask your company not to engage in political donations. Donations by wealthy corporations, whether to causes you support or oppose, are inappropriate for a variety of reasons, including that these donations resemble bribes, which have no place in a country that prides itself on the rule of law. So many friends across the country have reached out and asked how they can help because they recognize the importance of this race. Yes, almost the entire Texas/Mexico border is within the jurisdiction of this court. But even greater is the concern about the politicization of our courts. Whether you are a Republican who thinks the judge in the NY hush money trial is corrupt or you are a Democrat who thinks the Trump appointed judge in the Florida documents case is on the take, or just someone watching the news reports about Justices on the United States Supreme Court, some are losing faith that it is even possible for a judge to remain independent, fair and impartial. We need judges who are committed to working hard EVERY DAY to prove they are worthy of the respect afforded the bench. The latest poll from Puck’s partnership with Echelon Insights finds that while American voters are starting to tune in to the presidential race, they’re giving a big, bipartisan thumbs-down to Trump using campaign funds for his legal fees. Trump is using a leadership PAC—Save America—to pay off millions in legal expenses related to many criminal and civil cases, including his attorney’s fees. Much of that money is coming from campaign contributions, from small and large donors alike. Since last year, other Trump fundraising entities have transferred more than $50 million to Save America. The PAC even gets money before the R.N.C. does. The concept is novel—and deeply unpopular. A huge majority of polled likely voters—70%—say they do not support campaign donations being used to cover legal fees. Should it be necessary? Does the US Senate ACTUALLY need to have its collective “D” and “R” feet held to the rhetorical fire, before it will carry out its constitutional duty and hold the impeachment trial of Alejandro Mayorkas? The US House of Representatives has already concluded that… “Mayorkas HAS failed to secure our border and protect Americans by willfully and systemically refusing to comply with the law as well as breaching the public trust.” How many more Americans need to die at the hands of illegal aliens or as a result of the fentanyl crisis before the Senate wakes up to this national security threat?” What does it take to get the US Senate to do its job? To make Mayorkas do his job? Or to just remove him? Calling both of your states senators would be a great start. Donating to The Heritage Foundation, who’s working hard to hold all of the US Senates feet to that fire would help as well. We, as individuals, can’t do everything to fix these problems, but we, each individual one of us, CAN do something. Do something - now.

You might be taken aback by what truly motivates the extremely rich. It's not always about the money but rather the power and influence that comes along with it. This is evident in the political sphere, where campaign donations often lead to expectations of favors in return, like the notorious case of LA council member José Huizar. Despite the relatively small amount involved, the underlying power dynamics rendered it a serious crime. In essence, wealth is not just a tool for luxury but a means to control and influence. Hon'ble SC holds - Electoral Bonds Scheme UNCONSTITUTIONAL: 2 main reasons: 1. Anonymous donations violate right to information. Can also influence policy decisions & winning licenses by the donors. 2. Even loss making companies were allowed to make donations, questioning Principle of Transparency.

On February 1, 2024, the Georgia Senate passed Senate Bill 63. This bill, sponsored by Senator Randy Robertson, raises numerous concerns at the Southern Center and among our organizational partners for its potential to negatively impact criminal legal reform efforts throughout Georgia, specifically within the City of Atlanta and Fulton County. Senate Bill 63 proposes expanding mandatory cash bail to 30 new offenses, including many non-violent misdemeanors, requiring judges to impose cash bail for many offenses that do not involve physical harm to another person, such as possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, failure to appear, forgery, and criminal trespass. Further, SB 63 essentially bans bail funds by not allowing organizations, charities, individuals, or groups to bail out more than three people per year and requiring them to register as bonding agencies.
