“For those who feel that SMS is onerous or over-regulation, here’s my advice: Just forget SMS. Instead, think of it this way: The things that are part of a fully functioning SMS are the very things a professionally run aviation provider should be doing in the first place. Yes, you need a safety policy. Yes, a professional flight department should be assessing risks and mitigating those that are unacceptable. Yes, there should be safety assurance to verify that risk controls are effective. And, yes, the organization should strive to have a positive safety culture and actively practice safety promotion. Each of these components is a prescribed ingredient of SMS.” - Robert Sumwalt, Former Chairmain of the NTSB. Safety isn’t a policy or a procedure. Safety is an attitude, a culture. Kroger Aviation is proudly certified IS-BAO stage 3 complaint, but it’s the people, our culture, that make us one of the safest corporate operators in the nation.

Rated Top 10 NSC Speaker– I train safety leaders 👷 to guide teams using behavioral science. Clients include: 🚀 NASA, Disney 🧚 & UPS 📦
At what point are cost savings more important than safety? More important than human lives? I hope you say, "Never." Remember this story of the Boeing whistleblower regarding the 737 Max safety upgrades? It's a stark reminder of the consequences when profit takes precedence over people's lives. Let's advocate for a culture where safety is non-negotiable. How do you make safety a non-negotiable? 📣 Here are my top 6 tips to make safety a non-negotiable 📣 1. Leadership Commitment: Leadership sets the tone for safety culture. Executives and managers must demonstrate a genuine commitment to safety, not just in words but also through consistent actions. The top down safety approach permeates throughout the organization. 2. Employee Engagement: Actively involve employees in safety initiatives. They are often the ones with firsthand knowledge of potential hazards and can provide valuable insights into improving safety protocols. Empower them to speak up about safety concerns without fear of reprisal. 3. Continuous Training and Education: Provide comprehensive training programs to equip employees with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify hazards and mitigate risks. 4. Open Communication Channels: Foster an environment where open communication about safety is encouraged. Establish anonymous reporting systems or whistleblower protections to ensure that safety concerns are addressed promptly and effectively. 5. Regular Audits and Assessments: Conduct regular safety audits and assessments to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement. Use data-driven insights to continuously refine safety protocols and procedures. 6. Recognition and Reinforcement: Recognize and reward safety-conscious behaviors. Positive reinforcement reinforces the importance of safety and motivates employees to prioritize it in their daily activities. Positive reinforcement is vital for a strong safety culture. What do you think? #SafetyFirst #EthicalLeadership #SafetyCulture #positivereinforcement ✈️
