I of course cannot post about #WorldWaterDay without talking about how water insecurity can be found in every country in the world, even in a country like Canada. A wealthy, G7 nation with a lions share of the world's accessible fresh water, yet which still has countless indigenous communities suffering from lack of access to safe drinking water. Industrial pollution, insufficient or inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of political and social will to improve public and private investment in these indigenous communities have all contributed to the shameful continuation of this tragedy. We must call on our politicians and our industry leaders to do more to promote indigenous water soverignty, and to help indigenous communities and leaders build their own capabilities. Self sufficiency, not having to rely on government support for survival, is the least we can do considering that we are the reason the ancestral land on which they live is no longer able to sustain them as it once did.

Businesses play a major role in resolving the global water crisis affecting our children and economies. They are performing commendable efforts to save water, save money, and help build good community relations around their operations. However, individual initiatives are still not sufficient to address water crisis, and mobilize an effective systemic response. Today, we need to address water as a global common responsibility, and work together with the private and pubic sectors, all around the world, to establish collective action to create a more water secure world, and achieve Water Security for All by 2030. "We all need #SafeDrinkingWater 💧 to survive. Almost every business needs reliable water 🌊 too. South Africa is already a water-scarce country, the 30th driest in the world. Combined with having uneven rainfall 🌧️, this makes water a hot commodity. We need to realise that water does not come from a dam, a pipe, or a tap." Did you know that 1 in 5 deaths worldwide can be linked to the drinking (and other uses) of water contaminated by waste, chemicals, or bacteria? The issue is even worse in developing countries, where more than half of all illnesses are linked to drinking unclean water. For millions around the world, dirty water isn’t just a problem: it’s a crisis that makes people sicker, poorer, and less hopeful. But it doesn’t need to be this way. Embrace Relief is transforming communities in a positive way with our Clean Water Initiative, which builds water wells throughout Africa. So far, our wells are supplying nearly 1 million people with safe drinking water – and with your help, we’re aiming even higher. Join us in giving the gift of clean water today! 💧🕊 Today, on World Water Day, we talk about leveraging water for peace. Water can create peace or spark conflict. As a human right, we must balance everyone’s water needs. Here at RWSN - Rural Water Supply Network, we are committed to the vision of a world in which all people enjoy safely managed water services that are resilient and sustainable. We strive to connect individual professionals and organisations dedicated to rural water supply. In the last few days, we discussed with you this year's theme of Water and Peace. Here are some facts we got from the discussion: 🚰 703 million people worldwide are lacking basic drinking water services. Out of them, 550 million live in rural areas. 🏞 Water often plays a role in conflict. The majority of those who voted think that water becomes a trigger in conflict more often than a weapon or a casualty. 🌍 Water can be a stabilizing force and a catalyst for peace at all governance levels. The opinion on who plays a bigger role in fulfilling people’s human right to water is split between water users at the local level and governments at the global level. Make sure to learn more about the role of water in creating peace and some things you can do here: https://lnkd.in/dJfzbmRw Skat Foundation #WorldWaterDay #ruralwater #waterandpeace

💧 **Water: The Essence of Life** 💦 Water is our lifeline, vital for survival and well-being. But in our quest to quench our own thirst, let's not forget the importance of sharing this precious resource with others. Here are some ways to ensure fair access to water without resorting to building dams and making it unreachable: 1. **Cooperative Solutions:** Instead of monopolizing water sources, work together to find cooperative solutions. Collaborate with neighbors to establish community wells or water distribution systems that benefit everyone. 2. **Communication:** Openly communicate with others about water usage and distribution. Discuss needs, concerns, and ways to share water equitably to avoid conflicts. 3. **Consideration:** Be considerate of others' needs when accessing water sources. Don't hoard or block access to water, and always leave enough for others to use. 4. **Education:** Raise awareness about the importance of sharing water resources responsibly. Educate others about the consequences of selfish behavior and the benefits of cooperation. 5. **Empathy:** Put yourself in others' shoes and empathize with their need for water. Treat others as you would like to be treated, and show kindness and compassion in sharing this essential resource. Let's remember that water is not just a commodity but a fundamental human right. By working together and sharing water responsibly, we can ensure that everyone has access to this life-sustaining resource without resorting to divisive measures. #WaterIsLife #ShareTheWater #CooperationOverConflict #CommunityUnity 💧🤝🌍
