Proposed bill would help Maine businesses recover from recent storms Legislation backed by both parties would create a $50 million relief program for small businesses. Maine lawmakers from both parties want to set up an emergency relief fund for small businesses that were damaged by three historic storms that pummeled the state in a matter of weeks. A proposed bill, sponsored by Sen. Craig Hickman, D-Kennebec, would establish the $50 million Small Business Weather Emergency Relief Program. Save money to cover unforeseen emergencies. Ideally, save three to six months of living expenses in an emergency savings account. Once you reach six months of emergency savings, continue saving in your emergency fund until you reach another milestone, such as one year of living expenses.
