ABS researcher Andrea Weihrauch recently gave a presentation to the White House Presidential Innovation Fellows in Washington DC. She was invited by one of the Fellows currently employed by NASA. In her presentation 'Artificial Intelligence Agents and Diverse Representation - The Complex Reality of Human Stereotypes in a Technology World', she talked about the responsibilities involved when creating entirely new agent classes that fall somewhere between humans and machines. Comprising a sprawling complex of 100 buildings in the Clear Lake Area of Houston – NASA's Johnson Space Center earned the city its enduring nickname "Space City" in 1967. Over the next 50 days, I’ll be sharing a series of posters, each distilling the essence of a U.S. state into a minimalistic design. My goal is to strip away the unnecessary and focus on the core of what each state represents – to me. What do you think represents this state?

We find it very helpful for any one in the technology development space, including R&D and innovation teams. This is the EU version which is more inclusive than NASA's version of TRLs. Today, our article on the gravity and tides of Titan, Saturn's largest moon, has finally been published in Nature Astronomy! Doppler-tracking data from the Cassini satellite has been re-analyzed to infer properties of Titans interior. Our research suggests the sub-surface ocean is less dense than initially thought, possibly consisting of a combination of water and ammonia, which could have implications on its habitability. I particularly like and support these observations: "Secondly, the framing is very much around particular outcomes – ‘positive sustainable growth and prosperity’, ‘a knowledge-based, diversified economy’, and ‘innovative solutions to emerging challenges’. No one could object to any of these ambitions. But they run the risk of coalescing around a species of social and economic meliorism. Ours is a civilisation that assumes that there are always solutions available to seemingly intractable problems. This in itself is a culturally loaded phenomenon. It needs to be acknowledged that our science and innovation system must also be able to grapple with challenges for which there are no happy endings in sight. There is a defensive or risk management element of research that is devoted to trying to understand systemic break-down and either how to prevent it or how to learn to live with the consequences. ...In my view giving risk mitigation equal weighting with opportunities is more than defensible. The defining feature of our age is that the opportunities to increase our current standard of living are increasingly being matched by very real risks that it may fall." which echo strongly my own submission: bit.ly/NS_SSAG
