Researchers at Sheffield Hallam University are using the Waters SELECT SERIES MRT Imaging Mass Spectrometer to understand how cosmetics and pharmaceuticals penetrate and distribute through layers of artificial, inflamed skin. But they are also going one step further by recreating the natural skin microbiome – bacteria, fungi and viruses included. This novel research enables manufacturers of cosmetics and personal care products to obtain a clearer picture on how their products behave in the presence of inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema. Unlike a bone, if you break a tooth it can't regrow. Well, not yet... Researchers aim to regrow teeth through a new drug. The drug blocks the USAG-1 protein, which enables bone morphogenic protein (BMP) to get to work regrowing teeth. Apparently, a single administration was enough to generate a whole tooth, and they've had successful trials in ferrets (diphyodont animals with similar dental patterns to humans). The drug is moving to human trials and could be ready by 2030. But I wouldn't sign up for this trial. We already know that dysregulated BMP signaling is carcinogenic. Instead, I recommend keeping the teeth you have (via a good diet and nasal breathing).

Research team develops light-activated compounds to treat neuropathic pain Zebrafish larvae. Credit: Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) Light can be used to activate drugs in specific parts of the body through photopharmacology. This innovative approach involves modifying the chemical structure of a drug by adding a light-activated molecular switch, such as azobenzene. This allows the drug to be activated only when exposed to a specific color of light, rather... Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dWYD6jjX . . Spitting Cobra Savior? Scientists Unveil Potential Antidote! | Aakash Khurana Great news for snakebite victims! Scientists discover a potential new treatment to combat the devastating tissue damage caused by spitting cobra venom. Spitting cobra bites used to mean amputation. Now, a new weapon in the fight for survival may change the game! #cobrakiller #savethelimbs #nobiteistootoxic #hopeforacure #spittingcobras #snakebite #antivenom #venomresearch #medicalbreakthrough #scincediscovery There was a recent discovery that could be a major breakthrough in treating spitting cobra bites. Scientists identified a drug that seems effective in preventing the severe tissue damage caused by this venom. Here's a quick summary: * Spitting cobra venom can cause rapid destruction of skin, muscle, and even bone around the bite wound. * In severe cases, this can lead to permanent scarring, disfigurement, and even limb amputation. * Researchers discovered that a drug called varespladib can block one of the key toxins in spitting cobra venom, potentially preventing this tissue damage. This is a promising development, but it's important to note that the treatment is still under development. More research is needed before it becomes widely available. for more info: https://lnkd.in/g64Vw_tx

Interesting collaboration! - Mendus and Institut Bergonié Partner to Explore Ilixadencel for Soft Tissue Sarcomas This collaboration between Mendus and Institut Bergonié holds promise for advancing treatment options for soft tissue sarcomas, a hard-to-treat cancer. All advances in cancer treatment are welcome for the quality of life for the patients and families. Here is a breakdown of the key points and potential outcomes . Overall Significance: This collaboration signifies a significant step towards potentially improving treatment outcomes for soft tissue sarcomas. The results of the REGOMUNE trial will be crucial in determining the effectiveness of ilixadencel in this context and its potential role in future treatment regimens. Collaboration Highlights: Investigating ilixadencel: Mendus' intratumoral immune primer will be studied in combination with existing therapies (regorafenib & avelumab) within the REGOMUNE trial. Focus on Soft Tissue Sarcomas: This collaboration prioritizes evaluating ilixadencel's efficacy in this specific cancer type with limited treatment options. Leveraging Expertise: Mendus brings its experience with ilixadencel, while Institut Bergonié contributes its extensive clinical and research capabilities in oncology. Potential Outcomes: Improved Treatment Efficacy: The combination therapy could potentially lead to better outcomes for patients with soft tissue sarcomas compared to existing options. Synergistic Effect: Ilixadencel's immune priming ability might work well alongside regorafenib's targeted therapy and avelumab's immune checkpoint inhibition. Novel Immunotherapy Approach: If successful, this could pave the way for a novel approach to treating soft tissue sarcomas and potentially other hard-to-treat cancers. Timeline: Anticipated completion of preparations for ilixadencel arm: Second half of 2024 Availability of first patient data: First half of 2026
We are excited to announce the collaboration with Institut Bergonié to study Mendus AB intratumoral immune primer #ilixadencel in soft tissue sarcomas as part of the #REGOMUNEtrial. For more details, please visit https://lnkd.in/eBbHJ2gH #ChangingTheCourseOfCancerTreatment
