Public Service Reminder: Job Scams This article struck a nerve with me today. Someone contacted me about six months ago about a potential "job" opportunity. The person insisted that I provide them my social security number during our first conversation. I politely declined to provide them with this information. Furthermore, I told them that they did not need this information an I would not provide this information to them. The follow up question asked for my date of birth. I gave the same response. Job scams come in a couple of flavors. One: fake postings on legitimate #jobsearch websites. Two: scammers reaching out to people directly, often through text. While we’ve taken immediate action and have shut down a recent fake domain, others may follow! Here’s how to stay safe: ✅ Emails from Danos recruiters will always come from @danos.com. ✅ Notifications from our job portal will come from *.icims.com. Check current opportunities at danos.com/careers. ❌ Any other variations are fraudulent and should be reported. ⚠️ Stay vigilant! They usually will not reveal the company, so move on never provide any personal information. Stay safe and protect yourself from these scams. Job Scams Job scams target job-seekers, especially those searching for remote or flexible work. Scammers post fake job listings or email individuals offering high pay for little work, then request personal information or upfront fees for "training" or "equipment." Victims who provide details may later find their identities stolen or lose money on non-existent services. To stay safe, research companies before applying, avoid jobs that request upfront payments, and be wary of employers who don’t conduct interviews or pressure you to accept immediately. Trustworthy jobs won’t demand personal information or payments until you've formally joined.
