The City of Watertown hosted an employee lunch this afternoon, in Saltonstall Park next door to City Hall, which included staff from all departments including Raider, the Community Resource Dog (in training) at the Police Department. Staff members had the opportunity to talk with staff members they know and introducing themselves to those they did not know. All eyes were on Raider as she ate her first ice cream because she's so adorable. Vee, the City's goose mitigation dog, was too shy to attend today.

My yearly PSA as a fellow beekeeper (and if you see a swarm, call me, I’ll be right over): The swarm season for bees is starting. If you see a cluster of bees hanging on a limb (or other object), you need a beekeeper, NOT an exterminator, NOT a flamethrower, NOT a water hose, and NOT bug spray. Please call a beekeeper, your County Extension Office, local beekeeping club, police department, or a similar organization. Many of them will gladly direct you to a beekeeper who would be happy to pick up these bees and give them a good home. Side note: Swarms are quite literally homeless bees. As such, they are not defending a hive, and are usually quite docile. But that doesn't mean you should mess with them unless you know what you're doing.

Next free webinar aimed at owners of XLs to update us all on where we stand. so many conflicting posts on social media so these are the people with the right information. #animalwelfare #animalrescue #bsl
December is always a stressful month, with many panicking to make sure they have got presents for everyone and making plans for the Christmas period; but, this December is likely to be far more worrying for many owners of large Bull Breed dogs, with Stage 1 of the XL Bully set to take effect on 31 December. As a dog owner myself, I know only too well how these owners must be feeling, particularly as many do not understand how this impending ban is likely to impact upon them. At this worrying time, we want to help as many owners of XL Bullys as we can and it is to this end that we have assembled a panel of experts, including Michael Barnett Ad Dip.CB, John Cooper & myself, to discuss and explain the XL Bully Ban, the law and its implications. If you have any burning questions about what the law will mean for you and your canine companion, this is your opportunity to ask them! Both webinars are FREE, so please email doglaw@reeds.co.uk to secure your place. I look forward to seeing you there! #XLBully #XLBullyBan #DogLaw #XLBullyDogBan #DogBan #AmericanBullDog

Frustrated to see this picture! I'd like to recommend a jar, a little scoop, and a home dog poo composting system... How to pick up the goods Poop on the lawn? Use a scoop (a gutter scoop from a hardware store works a treat). Poop on a walk? I use a jar, a little scoop, and a reusable sandwich bag to contain the scoop. How to dispose of the goods DIY a dog poo compost at home using this video: https://lnkd.in/dPqMe9eY which walks you through how to make one yourself. All you need is a bucket/tub and some tools! P.S. More sustainable dog tips here: https://lnkd.in/dc_tMyUQ
How hard is it to break an existing habit? Apparently for dog walkers in my local reserve it’s exceedingly difficult. My council decided to remove rubbish bins in my local park as a cost saving measure. Some six months on dog walkers are still leaving their dog poo bags where the bin used to be. I have been watching this with interest as I thought over time people would adapt and walk up the hill the extra 50 metres to use the other bin in the park or just take it home. But no people continue to leave the dog poo in the location of the old bin. Is it a silent protest I wonder? Or laziness? Yet clearly they are motivated enough to pick up their dog poo and bag it. What would you do to change these people’s behaviour? We know that people are less likely to litter if the area is clean of litter, but that might just encourage the behaviour as people know it will be removed. Do we need a sign saying no littering? Or would a sign saying dog poo bin up the hill with an arrow and then some footsteps painted into the concrete pointing up the hill work? Morale of the story just providing or in this case taking away infrastructure isn’t enough to get people to change existing habits. #behaviourchange
