[From My Book] The Power of Partnership: Chapter 3 "For those who remember learning about the elements of the periodic table, you may recall the term "isotope." An isotope is a version of an element with the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons; uranium-232 and uranium-238 are examples. For example, one element has a half-life (the time it takes to decay by half) of 4 billion years, but its isotope (with one extra neutron) has a half-life of just one billionth of a second! While this is an extreme example, it is a great metaphor for all organizations, whether they are families, teams, governments, or businesses. Any organization's heart, soul, and stability are the nucleus: the parents, coaches, team leaders, civic leaders, political leaders, corporate leaders, etc. Change one of them, and the effect may be bigger than we imagine."
