My mom – the invincible Maya Hamburger – had about nine dream jobs.  Chronologically, they included… Nanny. English/German/French Translator.  Fashion advertising. Realtor. Her last dream job was criminal defense attorney. She went to law school in her 60s, passed the California bar, and was televised on her first case as part of the OJ Simpson defense. As Maya – and Aesop’s Fables – used to say… "Be careful what you wish for." My Dream Job Starts Today Since my “job” is supporting small nonprofits in their fundraising, my dream job is a very specific kind of consulting project, where I work with a foundation. I have been asked by a community foundation to teach their grantees how to build sustainable revenue. Today is fundraising class #1. Few things are more satisfying to me than helping small organizations create fundraising ease. (Guess what? It’s not from grants!) Small-staffed nonprofits do such amazing work with limited resources. I love to help them hit the ground running in reaching more donors, no matter where they are in the process. Grantmaking foundations are a hub connected to lots and lots of small nonprofits. I’ve taught fundraising for years, and this is the role that I’ve wished for. Wish me luck! #nonprofit #fundraising

(top tip, silence sound on this video) #Holbeche House is a "building at risk". It was a historic home of the Littleton/Lyttelton family, 2 of which were Gunpowder Plotters (and 1 was in the Essex plot against Elizabeth). It was the scene of the last stand of the Plotters, and bares the scars of repeated musket shot (some still in it). It is also a building of merit without the association. There is a lot of goodwill towards the building from the local Dudley Council and local historic building trusts West Midlands Historic Buildings Trust (WMHBT) . But, goodwill alone is not sufficient to save a building and well-meaning but naive local campaigners didn't realise how unrealistic it was to get the National Trust to take it over without an accompanying endowment. This is a building which desperately needs a new viable use= housing? hotel? or a #billionaire to buy it and give it to the NT WITH sufficient endowment. King Charles III Charitable Fund ??? (it would be a great site for local apprenticeships in endangered but on-demand crafts, supervised by SPAB ). https://lnkd.in/eWHsEShP

Earlier this year Nesta and BIT convened the first Policy Live, a new one-day public policy conference in Westminster ⚡ With over 350 attendees - from central and local government, think tanks, academia, and civil society - the event focused on tackling some of the big policy questions that the country faces today. We only know what we know, and for those of us that run charities or not for profit associations, and any business for that matter. The Australian Institute of Company Directors has just released a checklist for small NFPs and a larger principles document for sizeable charities. What is interesting is that they also include a description of why it is important to have directors with lived experienced. It's worth a read to find out what you are doing and most importantly what you are not doing to remain compliant.
