My thoughts as a 35-year-plus Republican on the attempted assassination of former President Donald J. Trump (also see the history of former Gov. George Wallace of Alabama). When it comes to this event you have to ask yourself several checkbox questions due to Mr. Trump's questionable history with the word "violence". 1. Has the former President encouraged others to commit violence in his name? (see Jan 6th, 2021, and current federal charges)(x) 2. Has the former President delighted in violence against others? (see comments and jokes about Nancy Pelosi's husband being attacked) (x) 3. Has the former President played with and encouraged known terror groups to commit violence in his name? (see the end of the debate against Joe Biden Sept 29th, 2020)(x) 4. Has the former President made racist and inflammatory comments? (see "They are poisoning the blood of our country" direct quotes from Adolf Hitler, also see comments about migrants from Latin America being rapists and criminals)(x) My mother always said you get back what you put out into the world. The former President has carried himself in a manner unfit for sympathy or public office. You can NOT glorify violence and unlawful conduct and then expect others to sympathize with your pain. The person who tried to kill Mr. Trump was a Republican who belonged to a right-wing 2nd Amendment group.
