Discrimination in the Name of Art? The ruling by the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (TASCAT) ordering the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) to stop excluding men from its women-only Ladies Lounge installation is interesting as it makes one contemplate on artistic expression and the principles of equality. MONA argues that the installation is a deliberate artistic statement aimed at challenging historical gender disparities and empowering female artists. But TASCAT's decision deemed it direct discrimination. This ruling questions the effectiveness of excluding men from experiencing the art within the Ladies Lounge in promoting opportunities for female artists. It is necessary to think about the extent to which artistic expression can justify discriminatory practices, even if done in the name of social commentary or historical reclamation. Another interesting aspect here is the synchronized dance staged outside the courthouse by curator Kaechele's supporters. The presiding officer noted this to be inappropriate, discourteous, and disrespectful and this highlights the tension that can arise between artistic freedom and the necessity to maintain decorum during legal proceedings. As MONA considers further legal action or closure of the installation rather than admitting men, the case prompts broader discussions about the limits of artistic freedom, the intersection of art and social justice, and the responsibilities of cultural institutions in cultivating inclusive spaces. What I find STUNNING about all of this is that the terrorists and their backers, who seek to abolish Western human rights and replace them with something much more repressive and regressive, are the first to try to leverage our institutions IN THE NAME OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS THEY SEEK TO ABOLISH! They are highly skilled at working our own system against us. Here in Canada, this October 5th marks the 54th anniversary of the October Crisis, during which Justin's father, Pierre Elliot, invoked the War Measures Act for the very first time in Canada's history during peacetime. The Act temporarily suspended civil liberties in order to maintain civil order in Quebec and was used to combat the Front de libération du Québec (FLQ) - a terrorist group that sought to achieve Quebec independence through violence. Three months later, the FLQ's efforts to overthrow Quebec's government were squelched and its three leaders, arrested, but not before nine people were murdered, including Quebec Minister of Labour, Pierre Laporte who was abducted along with British Trade Commisioner, James Cross. Why the history lesson? Because much like amputating a limb that threatens the viability of the entire body, sometimes it IS necessary to take decisive, even radical action in order preserve something greater - our very society and way of life. These purveyors of hate, intimidation, destruction and violence MUST be bannished from our country. And NOW. When will our leaders wake up and realize that this is NOT about POLITICS? It's not even about Jews, Israel and Gaza...it's about our collective SURVIVAL. The Intifada is in our midst. When will we cease "bringing a knife to a gun fight"? It seems Britain has overslept and appears to finally be awakening from its fever dream. The questions are, is it too little, too late for them? And what about US?

Yeah, although an #IndependentVoter, I'm a #LifelongDemocrat who even was VP of the #CampusDemocrats in 1966-67 at the #UniversityOfIllinois. I'm a #CivilRights Progressive, albeit #CenterRight #Libertarian who is #LimitedGovernment / #SmallGovernment / #RuleOfLaw / #StrongBorders / #StrongMilitary / #2ndAmendment Democrat, a caucus in today's #Marxist #Socialist #Communist-led Democrat Party that's so small it could caucus in a phone booth.
