The phrase "what works" is often used in public policy in relation to making policy decisions on the basis of the best available evidence. This new initiative by ESRC and Wellcome aims to speed up and facilitate evidence syntheses. It will also make for some fascinating programme evaluation in years to come. https://lnkd.in/etSapUGi

🎉 Proud Moment! 🎉 I am thrilled to share that my research paper, "A Critical Evaluation of the Accuracy of Machine Learning Models to Predict Heart Diseases" has been published in the Journal of Computing and Management Studies (JCMS) http://surl.li/ikmkap This project is very close to my heart as I witnessed a loved one battle a heart disease not once but twice which fueled my determination to explore how technology can transform heart disease prediction and enhance patient outcomes. In this study, we thoroughly explored the power of cutting-edge machine learning models( Random Forest, Decision Tree, and Support Vector Machine)to predict heart disease. This research is a step forward in leveraging technology to enhance healthcare, showcasing the immense potential of machine learning in revolutionizing medical diagnostics. A heartfelt thank you to my supervisors and everyone for giving me all the support and encouragement which led to this accomplishment. I am excited about the future of technology in healthcare and the innovations to come! #Research #WomenInTech #DataDrivenHealthcare #Publication #MachineLearning

In the public arena, that’s where I think science has to be. Fearlessly contributing facts and models and data to the important debates and conversations Australia is having on key issues. That’s why it was so great chatting this week with ABC Radio’s Raf Epstein, and answering questions from listeners. It reinforced for me again that we must be able to communicate science in a way that allows people to accept the science and debate the policy, rather that rejecting the science out-of-hand to justify a particular position. We cannot go down the dark and dangerous road of conspiracy theories and alternative facts! That’s why it’s important we keep lifting the bonnet on science, so the community understands the rigour in the scientific process and its foundations of facts, good governance and integrity. CSIRO, as the national science agency, has a really important role to play in this and it’s important we’re in the arena because public debate and policy decisions will be made by others, but they need to be informed by science. All of this matters because it’s hard to think of a time when we’ve had so much advanced technology, astonishing knowledge and the capacity to determine the future of our planet. As a society, we’re making (or will make) big decisions on everything from climate change to how we use AI to how we respond to pandemics. Navigating those challenges, making the best decisions, will depend on public attitudes so it’s important the community understands what we do and why science is different from religion or politics or opinion or social media. So science has to be energetically in the area, thoughtfully presenting the facts, committed to building trust, and helping to shine a light on the right path. So much of the future depends on it. https://lnkd.in/gTnX2jqD

🕹 Generative AI is our new fact and challenge in many parts of our live. There was a roundtable stemmed #scienceandbusiness (also #elsevier) and they underlined the growing importance of #GenAI especially for researchers (directly/indirectly society). Whilst most of them agreed on its infancy and some risks, the productivity of it is undeniable. Especially for researchers, universities, publishers and other stakeholders of the society, GenAI provides a unique service to extrapolate valuable knowledge from peer-reviewed content. 🎯 ❓ The concern about EU approach on taking their time on regulations more than developing the technology is valid(from my point of view) and I feel the same! If EU wants to be the leader or one of the big players in that area, interdisciplinary approach, industry-university-research center colloborations and dive into market with all expertise and products are MUST! Today's weekly update from CE Hon. Tracey Martin addresses a critical issue being worked on at the Aged Care Association: Hospital Level Care (also known as Continuous Care) is one of four levels of aged residential care funded by Te Whatu Ora. It is for residents assessed with significant disabilities, often coupled with medical issues requiring 24/7 supervision by a registered nurse. This can include medication management, wound care, and mobility assistance. Essentially, these individuals need round-the-clock support. ▪ Te Whatu Ora currently pays $287.01 per day for each resident requiring hospital-level care. The approximate cost per day of a hospital bed for the same individual if aged care isn't available is $1700 (almost 6x higher!) ▪ While Te Whatu Ora pays $287.01 per day, the actual cost at the moment for that bed, if the aged care provider was funded to pay nurses in aged care the same as the nurses that would look after this person in a hospital bed, and if they were being funded appropriately in recognition of inflation, is $316.43. ▪ That's a loss of $29.42 per person, per day - adding up to a total of $10,738 per year, per person. Proper funding can lead to better care for our residents and more efficient use of healthcare resources. That's why we're in discussions with Te Whatu Ora, pushing for adequate funding to: 1) Ensure proper compensation for the care provided to these New Zealanders. 2) Free up $1700 hospital beds for those in urgent need of hospital care. Let's work together to make this change happen! #AgedCare #HealthcareFunding #ContinuousCare #NZAgedCare #HealthEconomics #NursingCare
What I describe here is not rocket science so why is it so difficult to get this acknowledged by Government??
