Proud to be a University of South Carolina Gamecock! There are lots of reasons to have Gamecock pride, but today my pride focuses of access and affordability of higher education for South Carolina high school graduates. Starting with admissions for the fall 2024 semester, USC will admit all students in the top 10 percent of their class at South Carolina high schools. Admissions = access. But as President Amiridis wrote, “…access without affordability is sometimes meaningless.” So in addition to access/admission, the USC Commitment will cover costs of tuition and academic fees for South Carolina students who are in the top 10% of their graduating class and whose family income is less than $80,000. Accesss and affordability… that’s how change, how difference is made. Go Gamecocks!

Having been hearing the students practising their presentations for this session, I know it’s going to be a treat! Come hear directly from the students from Werribee Secondary and Kingsville Primary on their student action projects. Thirteen Broward County Public Schools high schools are among the top public high schools in the nation, according to the annual rankings released this week by U.S. News & World Report, with Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy, Pompano Beach High School and McFatter Technical High School in the top 2.5% of all ranked schools in the country. In addition, Atlantic Technical High School and Cypress Bay High School ranked in the top 5%. These five schools are also recognized for being among the top 5% of high schools in Florida, with Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy ranking #2 in the state. Read more at bit.ly/3JDlfE4

The Muddy Best Schools Awards 2024 have launched! I'm thrilled to let you know that The Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Awards, in partnership with Debrett's Education, have just opened and are ready for entries up until 21 March 2024. I started the Best Schools Awards in 2022, because I felt like there was a need for an Awards that focused on on modern, innovative, forward-thinking education rather than just pure academics or schools trading on their name or past glories - values we share with Debrett's Education and our incredible panel of judges: Patrick Derham OBE, Roz Savage MBE, Emma Goldsmith, Guy Schady-Beckett, Stefan Anderson, Prof Dr Ger Graus OBE, Lucy Elphinstone, Kieran McLaughlin, Tove Okunniwa MBE, Toby Garbett OLY, Mark Semmence, Dr Jess Wade, William Phelps, Sophie Green and Sioban O'Connor. I also wanted to give a strong, impartial helping hand for families trying to see past glossy school marketing brochures to choose the school where their children would be happy and thrive. Our 13 categories have been chosen to really test a school's brilliance and innovation in areas that parents (like me) care about including pastoral care, passionate sports provision, creative learning, and a dynamic arts programme. This year we've added three new categories - Best Learning Support, Prepared for Life (Sixth Form) and Most Inclusive School.
