With 2025 around the corner, we are pleased to announce that our report highlighting 5 trends for digital consumer markets in 2025 has just been published! Throughout 2024, we have analysed important developments and innovation spanning all areas of the telecoms industry and wider digital ecosystem. How will the industry evolve in 2025? Which trends will continue to run their course? Which trends will take a new direction? And which will enter the fray for the first time? One of the trends is that we expect monetisation of 5G adoption will be a pressing objective. With 2 billion 5G mobile connections at the end of 2024 (roughly five years since launch), 5G adoption has certainly been fast. While adoption will continue to grow, reaching nearly 30% of total connections by the end of 2025, monetisation will be more pressing than ever. Clients for GSMA Intelligence's Digital Consumer research module can access this short report to see the other trends and their implications at: https://lnkd.in/eKFTNkSs

We all know that European telecom operators face a critical challenge in the #consumer segment: how to #monetize the new #5G technology effectively before it becomes #commoditized. While 5G promises #higherspeeds and #enhancedconnectivity, focusing solely on these aspects may only offer a short-term competitive advantage that will vanish once it is offered by everyone. The key lies in identifying and implementing innovative #monetizationmodels that go beyond traditional offerings. 5G's #flexibility opens doors to tailor premium service bundles, personalized plans, and tiered data options that target different #consumer segments. By leveraging these capabilities, operators can create #uniquevaluepropositions that enhance #customerexperiences and drive #revenue. The ability to offer services like ultra-low latency for gaming or unlimited data for families gives operators the opportunity to build loyal customer bases willing to pay for more than just faster speeds. However, the window of opportunity is narrow. Operators that focus on a strategy of simply selling better connectivity may soon find themselves competing on price alone, losing the chance to differentiate and capture value from 5G's broader capabilities. Now is the time to find the right business models to capitalize on this technology's full potential. -> If you want to know more about how to win in this space, please find the research that I have been working on together with Daniela Rao. https://lnkd.in/dVEUby8i #consumer #beyondconnectivity #growth Thomas Meyer Chris Barnard Masarra Mohamed Ingrid Soukupova

🚨 India's 5G Reality Check: Are We Really There Yet? 🚨 The recent TRAI Drive Test across major cities has exposed a harsh truth: 📶 Telecom operators are still heavily reliant on 4G, despite loud claims of widespread 5G deployment. 📉 Even Reliance Jio, with its Standalone 5G network and superior 700 MHz spectrum, isn’t delivering full 5G coverage. 📲 Airtel has phased out 3G but remains deeply dependent on GSM for feature phone users, with thin 5G deployment limited to the 3500 MHz band. 📡 BSNL continues to struggle with fragmented 4G and a heavy reliance on outdated 2G/3G networks. 💡 Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea (Vi) is holding steady with optimized 4G but lags in 5G readiness. What does this mean for India’s digital future? Can our networks truly support next-gen services like IoT and smart cities? Are operators ready to meet rising data demands with their current infrastructure? 📖 I’ve broken down the facts and provided a deep dive into what’s really happening with India’s telecom networks. 👉 Read the full analysis here 💬 Do you think India’s 5G journey is on the right track? Having so many 5G towers across large nation is also a liability for national defense. An adversary can take control of 4G LTE towers near critical military installations and use a 2.45 GHz or 3.5 GHz radio beacon to guide weapons to localized targets. A 5G RU can be controlled to act as a airfield NDB(non-directional beacon) at 1.75 GHz and that is even more dangerous. Its a double edged sword to have 5G RUs near military barracks, naval bases , high altitude airfields . The 1PPS signal is time synchronized to 100ns enough to be lethal. There needs to be some control including killing the RU or disabling its dual ethernet ports. If you disable the ethernet ports it can be stopped. If you disable the twin ARM cores on the FPGA or disable the DAC on the transmit path it can be killed. So stop being comfortable.
