What does the client servicing team do? Simply put, their main job is to ensure stability. Unfortunately, their role and importance have diluted over time, being reduced to messengers, going back and forth between the internal and external stakeholders It is, of course, an inadequate way to look at client servicing. You could have the best creatives and strategies, but it’s the client servicing team that battles it out and brings in the everyday wins. They have to be a part of all the client-facing discussions and debates, negotiate resources and timelines, be held accountable and hold their ground without being disrespectful. Client servicing teams: - Anticipate questions, develop domain knowledge about all the teams working on the project and have a good grasp of the client’s industry. - Need experience and expertise across multiple disciplines. It’s a generalist role and not a specialist one. - Have the ability to push people and their boundaries while affording them space to work without taking on too much pressure. - Know how to realistically manage client demands, balancing them against internal resources and creative processes. - Hypercommunicate with the clients and ensure that all the internal and external teams are on the same page. - Know everything there is to know about their clients, including personal details like birthdays, marital status, pets, home town and hobbies, to keep the conversations going and add a personal touch to the communication. The role of a client servicing executive is much like a project manager working on multiple projects. It’s an always-on role on which the client’s experience with the organisation rests, along with the happiness and satisfaction of internal teams. If the client servicing team agrees to all client demands, it will likely cause a drop in the quality of work and a high turnover rate across the organisation. If they negotiate too hard, the client may walk away. It’s a double-edged sword that can become blunt only with experience and expertise. They are definitely not just messengers! So well written Kirtan! Have often faced these remarks and most people don't understand the importance of a client servicing person in the team. We are sounding boards of Internal teams and external stakeholders, passing on only the necessary and productive information which leads to efficient projects :) "Ensure Stability" is my new favorite phrase!
