We are always incredibly proud to host work experience students and provide them with the best possible introduction to our industry. Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Orla and Sienna, who joined us to gain hands-on experience in quantity surveying. Both were able to join us for a site visit, and it was great to see their excitement as they engaged in practical experience. Thanks to Ria Carr MRICS for looking after them. Also, thanks to Ella Brocklebank in arranging Sienna's day with us. https://lnkd.in/etY2-QHG

I can't believe it's finally happening! I'm beyond thrilled to see the construction project I worked on come to life! As a Student Quantity Surveyor, I had the privilege of drafting the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and Material Schedule for this incredible project. From conceptualization to reality, it's amazing to see the transformation take shape. The Material Schedule I prepared is now a living, breathing entity, guiding the construction process and bringing the project to fruition. I'm so proud to have played a part in this journey, and I can't wait to see the finished product! Witnessing the project's progress, I'm filled with a sense of: - Pride: Seeing my work contribute to the project's success - Excitement: Watching the design transform into a physical structure - Fulfillment: Knowing I helped bring the project to life I'm grateful for the opportunity to work on this project and can't wait to see the final result! #ConstructionProject #BillOfQuantities #QuantitySurveying #ProjectReality #DreamBig

There's a silent tsunami brewing. The demand for Quantity Surveyors is skyrocketing, but the supply? Struggling to keep up. Here's a provocative idea: Let's stop treating Quantity Surveying as a niche skill. Let's mainstream it. Imagine a world where Quantity Surveying is as common as Excel proficiency on a resume. We need to embed Quantity Surveying into the core curriculum of Civil Engineering degrees. The demand is out there. It's time we rise to the challenge. Let's make Quantity Surveying the new black. Let's create a future where every construction project has the Quantity Surveying expertise it deserves. The tsunami is coming. Will we ride the wave or drown in the surge? Time will tell.

👨🍳 Perfection? Purification of gyri? You have it! Founder of FIDIC, JCT, VOB, AIA ... Bespoke Contracts Forum 2015 & TEA Group 2018
Historical background of Quantity Surveying (UK) For those who did not have the opportunity to learn something about the history of QS-ing in UK, in the modern times, during their three years of the QS program, here is a small lesson from us who spent at least twice as much time studying Architecture or Civil Engineering. So that Quantity Surveying would be only part of our professional knowledge! Quantity Surveying Practice, First Edition 1984, by Ivor H. Seeley Seeley and Winfield’s Building Quantities Explained (1998) “The earliest mention of surveying as a profession was in Ireland in 1750. An Irish clergyman and architectural writer, John Payne, vicar of Castlerickard in County Meath, put his name to a “True Bill of Materials required for the Improvement at the Barrack of Horse at Trim” as “a full bill made by me John Payne, Clerk and Surveyor of Quantities”. The earliest quantity surveying firm of which records are available is a Reading firm in the UK which was operating in 1785. There is a little doubt that other firms were in existence at this time and a number of Scottish quantity surveyors met in 1802 and produced the first method of measurement. Up to the middle of nineteenth century it was the practice to measure and value the building work after it had been completed and bills of quantities were not prepared. The need for quantity surveyors became evident as building work increased in volume and building clients become dissatisfied with the method adopted for settling the cost of the work.” Conclusion: First Quantity Surveying firm which resembles to today’s firms comes from Reading, England in 1785. First Quantity Surveying MoM was established by Scotish Quantity Surveyors in 1802. It’s refreshing Peter Foreman’s view from Construction Law Group where he said commenting this issue in 2015 when I published this text on LinkedIn : “As an Englishman living and working in Scotland, who has spent roughly half of his life in each country, I can give a clear answer to the original question. The English will claim they invented everything first (or at least better) The Scots will admit they may not have invented everything first, but they certainly did it before the English. I will add: What the Irish will say on all of this?
