It's #IWD2024, and I couldn't let the day go without a quick post about #InvestInWomen - the UN theme for this year. This year I challenge you (and me) to invest time in supporting the women around you. I challenge businesses, large and small, to invest financially in their female staff (the gender pay gap is, I believe, still live and kicking). I challenge you (and me) to invest time in reading relevant books to support us as we help ourselves and others - if you've not read it yet, please read The Authority Gap by Mary Ann Sieghart, the chapters at the end give tips we can all learn from. I'm going to be reading Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez, which people have recommended. I'll also be re-reading How Women Rise by Sally Helgesen. Last Friday was International Women’s Day and in light of this, here are some of the global female driver development-related announcements aimed at encouraging female participation in motorsport that were published over the last week or so as well as additional analysis on the status of getting more females involved in motorsport as well as what still needs to be done. I also look at JDX Racing’s approach to driver development, using adaptive technologies to allow more people with disabilities to get involved in motorsport and how HPDE are becoming a great gateway to motorsports. #racedriverdevelopment #womeninmotorsport https://lnkd.in/eRfua-gN

I recommend this book, we need to get better particularly in our industry. I wish we could be in a position where we are talking about safety without having to differentiate between genders or races

No Experience Ever Goes to Waste Standing in front of the Aston Martin F1 Team in London last week, I’m reminded of a time many moons ago when I was a grid girl. Back then, I gained a unique understanding of the F1 world but noticed a glaring absence—female mechanics. Fast forward to today, and it is an honour to see the progress we’re making through Empowered Women In Trades (EWIT) Group Our mission to push the needle towards 30% female representation in skilled trades in Australia is sending ripples across the ocean, reaching countries like the UK. It's exhilarating to think about a future where we see 30% female representation in F1 mechanic positions. But this vision won't become a reality without a collective effort. That’s why we’ve launched the EWIT Alliance—a community of like-minded organisations dedicated to driving this change. The Alliance provides invaluable resources, networking and opportunities to support and empower women in trades. Join us in this mission.
