Most see a strategic plan. We see safer travel for everyone. Every five years, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) authors a Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) to identify ways to decrease traffic crashes. We collaborated with NDOT to conduct the assessment, which is now an appendix to the SHSP and is NDOT’s first document focusing strictly on improving safety for vulnerable road users, like pedestrians or cyclists. Goals of the assessment included: - Analyzing contributing factors that lead to vulnerable road user crashes - Identifying high-risk facilities, demographics, and land use - Developing strategies that make progress toward eliminating fatal and serious injury crashes

After reaching a 40-year peak in 2022, pedestrian fatalities in the United States have finally fallen. According to a survey by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), the incidence of pedestrian fatalities will decrease by 5.4 percent in 2023. 🚦 Navigating the Road to Safer Journeys🚦 Reflecting on 2023, the road safety landscape in Victoria is sobering. At Real Time Traffic, we're dedicated to making roads safer, and recent statistics demand attention. The first half of 2023 marked the deadliest period on Victorian roads in over a decade. With 155 reported deaths, surpassing numbers not seen since 2011, 2007, and 2006, equal to 2008 (TAC, 2023). The number of lives lost continued to rise in July, with an additional five lives lost in the first four days, bringing the total to 160 for the year – a staggering 38 more than the same period last year. Approaching December, we have lost 258 lives. This marks a 21.2% increase compared to the same period last year and the holiday season is yet to unfold. Real Time Traffic believes in proactive solutions. National crash data is often significantly delayed, hindering timely policymaking. We emphasise the urgency of up-to-date information for effective interventions. We're dedicated to leveraging data, innovation, and collaboration to create a safer road environment. City crews are prepared for the coming snow. Please help them out by remembering the following: · OVERNIGHT PARKING RESTRICTIONS - Vehicles may only be parked on City streets from 2 a.m. -5 a.m. with night parking permits (City ordinance 7.04 (6)(d)). Vehicles with overnight-parking permits shall be parked on the even-numbered side of the street on the even-numbered days and on the odd-numbered side of the street on odd-numbered days, except on streets where parking is permitted on only one side at any time. The date at 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. shall determine the even or the odd number of the day. If you do not need to park in the road, please avoid doing so. · SLOW DOWN - Drive slow, use caution, and leave plenty of space between you and other drivers. · GIVE THEM ROOM - If you see plows out on the road, give them plenty of space. They make frequent stops, starts, and turns. · CLEAR HYDRANTS- Remember to clear the snow around your fire hydrant so crews can easily access it if needed in an emergency. · BE PATIENT - During a storm, crews will be out working. They start with main streets, hills, intersections, bus routes, railroad crossings and school areas. Once those are cleaned, they move on to flat streets, cul-de-sacs and alleyways.
