Let's get back to #postertbt! In 2016 we presented our work to assess solvents for the RhE phototox assay... The Reconstructed Human Epidermis (RhE) Phototoxicity assay utilizes a 3D tissue model containing a functional stratum corneum to evaluate potential phototoxicity of test materials. We investigated five solvents, polyethylene glycol (PEG), 5% DMSO in Hanks’ Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS), 5% acetone in HBSS, 5% ethanol, and 1% DMSO in HBSS as is, and also to prepare a 0.02% dilution of chlorpromazine, a photoirritant. Through our work initially presented at SOT in 2016, we demonstrate how potential novel solvents can be evaluated prior to use in phototoxicity assays. This work was further investigated and showcased in a poster presented at SOT in 2024--stay tuned for that work next week.
