#TFMA Members! As your conference committee chair, I come to you this morning with some exciting news! I teased out during last week's conference luncheon that there would be some new initiatives at the 2024 Technical Summit in Dallas, TX in August stemming from some ideas we had during a conference committee meeting last Wednesday (3/20). Here they are!
(1) We will introduce a new type of presentation called a "mini workshop".
These will be a grouping of 1 hour or 1.5 hour small workshops which will be a track of its own during the concurrent session of the conference program and only held during the Technical Summit. They should be geared toward helping your audience develop a new skill or learn how to do something from you as an expert on that subject. We'll still have our typical full day (8 hour) and half day (4 hour) workshops, but will be introducing these new smaller workshops so someone can present a learning opportunity on a smaller scale.
You might be asking..."what kinds of things would fit well in these mini workshops?" Think of things like: how to fill out an elevation certificate, how to optimize a detention pond, how to put together a successful CLOMR or LOMR, how to create a successful funding application, things to consider for when adding breaklines to a RAS model, etc.
(2) Depending on the number of abstract submittals we receive, we may shift away from our usual 2 plenary/2 concurrent sessions and do 1 plenary session and 3 concurrent sessions.
With both of the above items, the aim is for the Technical Summit to FEEL different than the Annual Conference with more training, more options, and more opportunities to pick and choose for conference attendees to learn and develop new skills.
Abstracts will open on April 1st and close on May 1st at 5:00pm! Look for an email from the TFMA staff with the link, or head to the TFMA website for it!!
