This may be controversial…but it shouldn’t be. TechSlice, LLC had 12 holidays off, some paid community volunteer time, and a discretioanry company week shutdown to ‘reset’ on top of regular employee PTO last year. I’ve been told it’s a LOT of time for a startup. (Only in the US) Most of our work is deliverable/results based. This year, I added another week of employee PTO based off of feedback from the team. I’ve been criticized for the holidays we celebrate and have been told what I ‘should do’… I love feedback but, telling others what to do without taking the time to understand the ‘why’ behind people’s decisions comes off as patronizing. You think you’re the only one telling me how to run my company? You’re not. It’s also not your company and not my first rodeo. We’re not your average company. We never will be. We are a team of creatives and we work on crazy stuff. When were ‘on’ - we’re ‘on’. We perform. When we’re off, we’re off. That needs to be respected. There are benefits to creatives (and everyone) to have that space and time to ‘be bored’, to THINK, to create outside of ‘tasking’. Or just to be with others. Outside of that, when daycare is closed - we’re closed! When daycare and other institutions are closed, how to you expect parents and caretakers in general to be productive? Some family structures have support during those times and others don’t. That extra support isn’t guaranteed. I’m a big believer in family first. Take care of what you need to. Family time is family time and work time is work time. I’m a single mom running a company. I do my best to juggle and sometimes those worlds blend. I can’t do it all at once. Why would I expect my team to? Get real. Does that make me less effective? I’d argue it makes me hyper effective when I’m actually at work. My perspective and experience running two software agencies, a hybrid venture studio, and growing my company throughout COVID (with a young child) - has shown me the importance of a culture that respects time off and closing when childcare and various elder care institutions are closed. You may or may not get that but, you don’t have to. My team does. How we spend our time is our decision. Not yours. Period.
Happy Presidents Day! (We're Closed!) We're taking the day off to enjoy time with our family and friends. We hope you take the time recharge (and have fun)! We will see you bright and early on Tuesday! -From the TechSlice Team

I had an uncomfortable win this year that I share in this article from my Mauve team 🏆🏆 My professional win for the year was learning of my ADHD, how to work with it. It was quite a painful process to realise the reason I had gone through many burnout cycles in my early career was due to ADHD. And that what works easily for focus and executive function for my peers likely won't work for me. The good news? When I began the process of learning my brain function, and how to understand the neuro science behind it with Ange Nennie - I was able to set up new strategies and self compassion for my unique brain function. And there have been heaps of learnings and I am only one year in. Which would likely help anyone on the ADHD spectrum. Learnings for the neuro divergent follks that I learnt this year: 1. Gamifying admin tasks is a secret weapon for me, and tracking my best times helps see the progression (yes I am an excel spreadsheet nerd with this). 2. Meditation and exercise helps big time. Doing a 75 Hard Challenge (my own softer version) helped my crack into consistency here with friends. Recommend! 3. L-theanine with limited caffeine intake is a winning combination. 4. What works for me one week will likely not work forever. This is classic ADHD function. 5. Eating protein with every meal is a game changer for focus. 6. Having self compassion for when my executive function won't take off is essential. 7. Most people think we are all a little ADHD in modern society, and yes many have some symptoms. But the big difference is how much your struggle impacts your mental health to meet a diagnosis. 8. Learning my values and how to integrate them into my day is huge. 10/10 recommend. One year on from joining the Mauve team - and I am very grateful to work with a group of humans that have a culture of celebration and putting people first! Both internally and with the clients we work with. Wishing everyone a happy holiday season filled with celebrating your wins, challenges, and learnings this year 🎄🎄🎄

From underdog to unstoppable! Leicester City shocked the football world to win the Premier League title in the 2015/16 season. Leicester City's historic English Premier League victory against all odds serves as a powerful analogy for the journey of a tech startup. Here's how: 1. Vision and Ambition: Just like Leicester aimed for the top in football, tech startups set out with ambitious goals. They dare to challenge established norms and dream of disrupting industries with innovative solutions. 2. Resourcefulness and Agility: Leicester's triumph was fueled by resourcefulness and agility, making the most of their limited resources. Similarly, startups often operate with lean teams and budgets, leveraging creativity and adaptability to overcome challenges. 3. Teamwork and Collaboration: Leicester's success was a result of seamless teamwork and collaboration. In tech startups, diverse talents come together, each contributing their expertise to drive towards a common goal. 6. Resilience and Perseverance: Despite setbacks and obstacles, Leicester never lost sight of their goal. Similarly, startups face numerous hurdles on their path to success but demonstrate resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity. 7. Disruptive Innovation: Leicester's victory disrupted the established hierarchy of football. Likewise, tech startups aim to disrupt industries with groundbreaking innovations, challenging traditional models and paving the way for new possibilities. In essence, Leicester's triumph embodies the spirit of the underdog, defying expectations and inspiring belief in the power of perseverance and innovation. Just as Leicester achieved the impossible in football, tech startups strive to make their mark and rewrite the rules of their respective industries. It's a testament to the fact that with passion, determination, and a bold vision, even the most unlikely contenders can emerge victorious. 🌟 #UnderdogSuccess #TechStartupJourney #Innovation #Persistence #Disruption

Experienced Senior Marketing Leader || Growing B2B/B2C Companies with Effective Strategic Marketing || Mentor and Developer of High Performing Teams
I spent the last week in NYC 🍎 for a QBR, growth on-site meeting, and the first Ocroweek of 2024. What a great week full of well-earned celebrations, amazing sessions and conversations, but most importantly some in-person time with the team transforming AI-driven document automation. 🚀 Here are some of my key takeaways: 👉 Being in person is powerful. I had so many ad-hoc side conversations that will undoubtedly accelerate projects and ROI just because cross-functional groups were in the same building. I cannot wait for the next Ocroweek. 🎯 Rather than planning broad 1H plans, the team narrowed its focus to three key projects. By thinking strategically and getting laser-focused on three impactful areas, we left our planning sessions with clear ideas on how to execute. 🎉 We celebrated because we deserved it. 2023 was a rollercoaster, but the growth team crushed it. Not only did we increase monthly pipeline generation by +65%, we did so effectively and efficiently and reduced marketing spend by 13%! I'm excited for what's next at Ocrolus. One Team Stronger Together
