"When it comes to interview prep, many people fail here. - Scott Sovine, Sr. Staff Technical Program Manager at Databricks. I remember asking candidates at Meta, 'What's the most complex system you've ever designed?' and they'd describe a project entirely within their team, with a stretch goal set by a director, where they just filled in the blanks. That’s not a complex problem." - Scott Sovine, Sr. Staff Technical Program Manager at Databricks. I know I’m a broken record about this stuff now. But here we go again. I understand it’s a weird job market and the headlines are scary. But. Software engineering, data science, analytics, etc. aren’t going anywhere. Even if we “all code using plain language,” code was never the valuable part of the software engineering skill set. It was systems thinking. Understanding how to ask precise, focused questions. Understanding when an output makes sense or not. Your skill set may need to incorporate other skills - architecture, management, etc. - but the opportunity is still very much alive, even if “Meta is replacing their software engineering department with AIs.” (Who’s managing the AI’s? Who’s assessing their output and the output of their work? Who’s running product and thinking about what is going to bring value? Meta is still hiring technical folks with these skills, no matter what the headlines say)

“Metaview has been a game-changer in terms of reducing admin burden and focusing on the call in hand.” Dan Matthews is a principal recruiter helping startups around the world hire the best software engineers. He’s a Metaview pro and has seen some pretty impressive impact: ✏️ 8-10 hours per week saved on admin Since he doesn’t have to spend so much time writing up candidate feedback anymore, Dan has hours free to speak to more candidates or focus on internal improvement projects. ⏰ Reduced time-to-hire Dan’s hiring managers are using Metaview too, which means feedback cycles are super quick, and they can hire talent faster than the competition. 💙 Better feedback for a better candidate experience With the detailed notes Metaview provides, Dan can easily give candidates meaningful, tangible feedback, which is always much-appreciated. Metaview has not only increased Dan’s “TA happiness”, but also helped his hiring managers enjoy recruiting more too. Awesome stuff, Dan!

Do you remember when you didn't know you needed something but you can't live without it once you got it? 👀 (Like the gym, running, or a Domino's Pizza 😅) This is me with Metaview 😃 . Here are 3 reasons why I can't live without Metaview now as a TA professional: 👇 🥇 Save time on admin tasks 🥈 Reduces time to hire (increases speed of feedback) 🥉 Improves candidate experience (quality/depth of feedback) That is just 3 of the amazing benefits, I could list many more: Improves interviewer experience, reduces admin for hiring managers, improves Hiring managers and TA collaborations, improves quality of hiring debriefs. This list is endless 🏆. Metaview has not only increased “TA happiness”, but also helped hiring managers enjoy recruiting more too 💙.

🥇 TA / Recruitment Champions 🥇 Metaview has been one of the many AI tools that I have been using for the last 12 / 18 months and has been a super impactful tool in improving hiring processes. Here are 5 ways that Metaview can level up hiring processes👇🏻 1️⃣ Reduces speed of feedback (impacts overall speed metrics) 2️⃣ Increases Depth of Tangible feedback (more feedback is always nice 😉) 3️⃣ Improves Interview / Hiring Manager experience 4️⃣ Increases TA / Hiring Manager Productivity (less admin 🥳) 5️⃣ Reduces cost of hiring metrics In the video below, I cover in detail, how Metaview has improved my efficiency as a TA professional and has improved Candidate Experience and Hiring Manager collaboration 🏆 (link in the comments). #metaview #hiring #ai #talentacquisition

Hard skills can be learned on the job, but soft skills must be groomed over a lifetime. Algorithm design can be learned on the job by working alongside people who do it every day, but effective communication or mentorship isn't as easy to pick up.
Back at Meta, I was on the interview loop for an engineer with ~10 years of experience. They solved the LeetCode problems, but we leveled them all the way down at high junior [E3] to low mid-level [E4]. Why? Because they completely tanked the behavioral round. It wasn't clear to us if they could solve problems independently, manage projects, mentor others, and take initiative (i.e. all the behaviors expected at their level). This engineer made the same mistake I have seen so many FAANG candidates make: All they did was grind LeetCode and they dropped everything else. While Big Tech is notorious for data structures and algorithms problems, the interview is actually quite holistic with behavioral being weighed far more heavily than people realize. If you want to pass interviews at top tech companies, you absolutely need to master the behavioral round. To learn how to do that, check out my behavioral interview course here: https://lnkd.in/gn5cxDiC #techcareergrowth #softwareengineering #behavioralinterview #meta #interviewtips

My interview experience at Meta! For all those trying out or preparing for any interview, here is my experience which might help you too! The first step may vary for everyone, for me the first step was a referral. Having a referral can be a great way to get noticed. I reached out to a friend for one, and within a week, a Meta recruiter got in touch to discuss the interview process. 👉 Prep Like a Pro (DSA and More) Meta loves a strong grasp of Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA). The recruiter advised me to focus on these areas for the initial screening. 👉 Coding Language Choice Matters I chose Java because of the low-level design round, but in hindsight, Python could have been faster. Choose what you’re comfortable with . 👉 Screening Round Insights Meta’s screening is fast-paced. They expect you to solve 2-3 questions in 35 minutes. My round had questions on arrays, trees, and graphs. Expect simple questions, 👉 Preparing for Final Rounds After clearing the screening, I requested another month for prep, and the recruiter shared Meta’s career page with 20 practice coding problems. This resource was gold! Meta’s process was intense, but the support and resources they provided made a huge difference. If you’re aiming for Meta (or any big tech), focus on coding speed, get comfortable with system design, and remember to keep a positive mindset! You can also do this !! Remember, I’m one DM away… #meta #coding #GeeksforGeeks #leetcode #tech #interview

It's strange to think that after 14 years of near-constant work and study, I'm facing a real break for the first time. My journey at Toptal, where I had the privilege of leading Product for our Data Science and Engineering teams, has unexpectedly come to an end. Along with a majority of my friends and colleagues in Product and Engineering, I was impacted by the recent layoffs. It was an incredible experience building AI infrastructure and helping my fellow PMs harness the power of AI to solve real-world problems. Now, I'm stepping out into the unknown with a mix of excitement and curiosity. What adventures await? What problems can I help solve? If you're building something innovative and need a technical Product Leader with a passion for AI, I'd love to hear your story. Let's explore the possibilities together! #OpenToWork #ProductManagement #AI #DataScience
