Their input is what builds trust in services, when often their experiences with service providers has represented loss and repercussions that felt hopeless and uncomfortable. There are now more people living in cities than in rural areas... Many developing countries are witnessing a monthly influx of 5 million individuals into urban centers, a considerable portion being adolescent girls seeking better life prospects. Urban living for girls is a double-edged sword, with heightened risks like sexual harassment and insecurity alongside the opportunities of improved education, reduced early marriages, and more political involvement. Our objective is to increase safety and access to public spaces, as well as meaningful participation in urban development planning for women and girls in cities. The diversity of people that engage with the Citizen Hub has taught me 5 things about the need for community interest projects like this: 1. Never assume anything about someone who walks in, taking the time to sit and listen, you get to understand so much about where people are and who they want to become. 2. The importance of environment in how it makes you feel in a space is crucial to ensure safety and creativity. 3. Developing strategies to ensure all generations and backgrounds recognise the Hub as 'for them', marketing using different platforms with tailored voices is crucial. 4. Once demand has been evidenced, it's crucial to develop an understanding for what organisations need to be aware of the project and being clear what that value exchange is. 5. Build it and they will come is just 5% of the solution, to future proof the model, taking research of what the community are asking for and building products/services to support those needs is what will ensure this project is here for years to come. 6. (Bonus) Forgive yourself and give yourself permission to say "We all want to be at Z" but for now let's just focus on getting A to E! Taking new approaches and trying to innovate in this space is not easy, those you think would flock to support don't always come true and having faith in the community you serve is the one thing that gives us the most confidence. We are still only 12 weeks in to this, it is working though and I am certain a Citizen Hub is what every town needs to connect people to skills and jobs locally. #CitizenHub #CoGrow #Community
