As the father of a kid who struggles with her mental health and who has needed a ton of intensive therapy and support to even make it to -- and through -- school days, the phrase "having a breakdown" is deeply offensive to me. Yes -- it has become a part of our common language around mental health, but that doesn't make it right. When my kid is struggling with her emotions in the moment, she's not "broken." She's a beautifully complex kid in need of your understanding and support. Our language -- particularly about struggling students in schools -- is often an indicator of what we believe. Spend a few minutes in the next few weeks listening to the words and phrases that your colleagues use to talk about kids and consider what impact those phrases have on the overall culture of your building. #steppingoffsoapbox

More and more therapists are turning to video game environments as a means of diagnosing and treating mental health patients. Minecraft, in particular, has become a popular tool for counselors to enter a game with their clients to build environments and situations that help explore the grief young patients experience following a bereavement. This approach has transformed the way therapists work with children and young people. By encouraging imagination and expression, counselors can help their clients explore their grief at a deeper therapeutic level and uncover their feelings following a loss. Meeting in virtual worlds can greatly reduce resistance to care and accelerate the adoption of new ideas. These concepts can be especially powerful for treating younger patients and addressing their mental health needs. This is great news and also furthers the intersection of games, AI and health. Games can break all types of barriers. A long time ago we had explored FX Golf and it's 3 hole round to work with Match prospects so to break the ice. Here is an example of counselors using Minecraft to break the ice and further to it certain games put all types of people in certain zones that result in better moods and the like. AI is helping better identify first in supervised, semi supervised and now generative approaches. Thanks for Ryan Douglas for posting. Also see Dmitri Williams paper on moods in games. From a digital health perspective solutions like AppliedVR to Healium and what DeepWell DTx and Jeffrey Tseng are doing there is great impact from solutions like these.

It’s R U OK? Day, and there’s a giant chess board in the lobby where I work! 🧠♟ As a huge fan of chess, this really resonates with me. In both chess and life, we can find ourselves in challenging positions—sometimes needing support to find the best move forward. Mental health is a lot like chess; it requires strategy, patience, and help from others. Especially in industries like construction, where stress can build up, it's important to remember that asking “Are you okay?” is a simple yet powerful way to offer support. Let’s make a move toward better mental health, one conversation at a time. Check in with those around you, because one thoughtful question can make all the difference. #RUOKDay #MentalHealthMatters #ConstructionIndustry #ChessAndConversations #SupportYourMates

Today, on #PTSDAwarenessDay, we acknowledge the impact of PTSD and the importance of mental health support. My experience of wrongful imprisonment for 16 years left me with severe PTSD. With the help of mental health treatment and techniques like EMDR, I am now back in society and thriving. This month, during #PTSDAwarenessMonth, let’s raise awareness and advocate for those affected. Recovery is possible with the right support and resources. 💙 #MentalHealth #Recovery #JusticeForAll #JeffreyDeskovicFoundation #EMDR
